Frank T. Hawley

Patrolman Frank Hawley was shot and killed while on an undercover assignment as a store owner at a shop at 719 Congress Avenue.

He and another officer had been deployed as undercover officers for approximately one year to gain bookmaking information. During the investigation, Patrolman Hawley became engaged in a verbal dispute over numbers with a subject. The subject produced a small handgun and shot Patrolman Hawley four times.

The 24-year-old man was later convicted of manslaughter and served ten years in prison.

Patrolman Hawley and his partner's undercover investigation intercepted more than $10k in heroin, 45 arrests, 22 warrants, and solved approximately 150 burglaries.

Patrolman Hawley had served with the New Haven Police Department for one year. He was survived by his wife and three children.
