Reflections for Sheriff Ivan R. Newell

Thank you so much for the wonderful words. It means so much to us, his children to know he is being remembered. He is thought about everyday as he was a wonderful father. He was so proud and happy the day he took office.

God could not of taken him home at a better time.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 45th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered..

Rest In Peace

Sheriff Newell was a highly respected professional by all. I did not have the privilage of knowing him personally but have heard many stories. The Deputy in the vehicle with Sheriff Newell was Wade Miller. It makes me feel proud to see a remembrance for Sheriff Newell.

Sheriff Newell,
Just the same guy who left you a message 2 years ago. God bless you and your family. I saw that you have 6 kids. I hope they will someday come to know what a hero their Dad was in this life. I hope we get to meet sometime in another place. You're already there, I'm still working on it down here!

I was born in Pender, the county seat of Thurston County in 1971 and raised there as well. My father is a Police Officer of 20 years in Pender and I just learned of Sheriff Newell's death today from this memorial. I plan on getting in touch with the current sheriff to see if there's any more info I can learn and pass on to this memorial to honor Sheriff Newell, who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Rest in peace Sheriff.
