A truly tragic day for the family, the Police Department and the Community. A friend, a boss and a good person was taken away. RIP.

Dan was a very fine person and supervisor. He worked for me at Sky Harbor station in the late 70's and was a Sgt I could always depend on. When Dan was on the scene I knew it would be handled without any worry on my part and made my job a lot easier.
His dedication to the Police Dept was never questioned and the PPD lost a fine Officer when he was taken before his time and I know he is working on God's team.
Rest in peace,
Lt Dick White #990

Dec.16th,1971, my first official day on the street after the academy. You were assigned as my training officer. I could not have asked for a better one. You gave me guidance throughout our careers.
July 26,1990, we were working together again at the North Resource Bureau. I had taken that day off or perhaps I would have been with you instead of John.
Dan, you, as well as John, have not been forgotten, nor will you ever be.

"No more the bugle calls the weary one.
Rest, noble spirit, all thy work is done.
I will find you and know you among the
good and true.
When a robe of white we're given
for our faded coats of blue."

We last talked on a code 7 at El Diablo. You were full of fun and made me laugh. I remember that night as well as others when your good nature helped us all get through the long nights.

I miss my father's humor, and his loving arms. He had a way to make everyone feel comfortable and safe. I wish my children who were born long after he was gone was able to know him and have him in their lives. My husband now would have enjoyed his company. I'd like to think that I have some of this humor and dedication in me.
He is forever in my thoughts and in my heart.

Brother Danny it has been a long while since we laughed and joked together. Your loss came as a complete surprise. Know that as you now reside in God's kingdom along with all our brothers and sisters of the badge who have given heroically to their calling as you did you will never be forgotten. Our sympathies and love goes out to your family. One day we will all be united in His kingdom. Until then brother rest in peace.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

14 years. WOW! Time does fly. Danny was my boss when he was killed by the cocaine impaired attorney in his Mercedes. Danny was driving on duty with John Domblisky. Danny, like John, was also a prictical joker and they were probably coming from planning their next joke on the squad. Danny had the most penalty days off without pay on the PD and was proud of it. He was a great boss and fun to be around. Danny also was an avid bicyclist and would ride 40 miles a day. He used to weigh about 245 but lost all the weight. He loved wearing his old size 54 sport coats at 165 lbs. He looked like a lost child. We all laughed. He is dearly missed.
