Although I was only 3 years old when my Uncle Danny was killed, it warms my heart to hear the stories of how great of a person he was and how much, after over 28 years, he is truly missed. Thank you for continuing to remember him and for sharing your memories with us.

March 31 is a celebration of your birth and February 4 is a day I wish we all could skip but instead I choose to celebrate and be thankful for knowing such a fine young man! You are never too far from my thoughts and I miss you my friend. One day we will meet again and I look forward to that day.

Great young man with a fantastic personality. He had everything to live for and a family that I respect so much. I knew his father, brother, and sister many years ago. It has been a long time since I have seen or talked with them but I have never forgotten their loss. I saw Danny for the last time at the Hattiesburg YMCA and we played basketball together. Next thing I heard, he had transferred to Brookhaven and was killed. When I watch America's Most Wanted and they pay tribute to fallen heroes, I think of Danny Nash everytime. God Bless your family George Nash. Your friend, Bobby Bryant

My mind goes back to that fateful night almost twenty five years ago. We had dinner together in Natchez with another trooper and said good-bye to each other, only to know it would be our last time. I have emblazened the night in my memory for soon to be twenty five years. I still miss you young trooper. Rest in the arms of our Lord, for we will see each other again. You did your job well while you had the time. Rest well, rest well. M-18----1980 thru 2001

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Danny, I passed your memorial sign this weekend on my way to the Balloon Race at Natchez. As we passed, my son said to me,"didn't you go to high school with him?" I replied yes and as we traveled along your highway I shared memories of you. I moved to Petal my junior year and your senior year. I did not know anyone. I can still remember you walking up to me after a long hard hot football practice "singing" and you introduced yourself to me. My first friend!! Then you continued to sing as you walked to your car. And that was Danny Nash...hardworking at everything he did, always with a song on his lips as well as in his heart, and friendly & compassionate to others. I still remember and will always miss you, Danny.

I knew Danny in high school and knew that whatever career path he chose, he would be the very best in it. He was a fine young man, taken from us much too soon. God needed a warrior in Heaven, we shall all see him again one day soon. Thank you for your service while here on the roads of our fine state. We miss you, Danny.

So sad you barely got to fulfill your
dreams. That would be awesome
if you are in the presence of the
Lord Jesus as He will make it up to
you somehow. And I look forward to
meeting you in the home Jesus has
prepared for us. God bless all those
that loved you and all those you loved.

I am proud to say that Danny was my friend. Prior to his joining the Mississippi Highway Patrol, he and I worked together for several years. We spent many a day hunting, fishing and camping together. My middle son is named after him. We were as close as brothers. I will never forget the night I recieved the terrible news of Danny's death. It has been over twenty three years now since Danny was taken from us, and I stiil miss him. He was one of the finest people that I have ever had the privelege of knowing. Danny I know you are with the Lord now, and I look forward to seeing you again some day.
Your Friend,
