Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper George Danny Nash, Jr.

I pass Danny's memorial highway marker twice a day, everyday and every time, I wonder why is there such evil in this world. I was a Freshman at a nearby college at the time of this tragedy and can't remember hearing of the incident. But, I am moved each time I pass the marker, and wish that time could go back upon itself and undo this atrocity. RIP Danny Nash!! I have read every post . . . . you were loved, are loved, and will continue to be loved, and NEVER forgotten, beyond eternity.

Not knowing Danny, he walked into my music studio and said " I really want to learn how to sing; will you help me? I smiled and said : "of course!". He and I set out on a relationship where even though he was my student, he and I would chat in my studio and we talked about several things ( outside of music). I remember the day he told me that he really wanted to be a state trooper.....WOW ! How many guys come up with that?!!
Danny was a down to earth, thoughtful, kind, 'straight forward person' with a smile that could 'light up a room' !! I think of him many - many times: ……..because I had some students over to my home for dinner and he brought me 2 Western Sizzling steel steak platters. I still continue to use them when I char grill outside in Decatur,IL They are special to me!

I knew Danny when he was a radio operator in District 7, MHP Sub Station.. Only a few times when we had a detail in the Hattiesburg area or stopping to fuel up.
Had the not such a honor dealing with the Georgia escapee when he was brought back from Mississippi for charges from his Georgia cases.
He was a as whole from the time officers picked him up for his return trip. When he was headed to court I had the honor of handcuffing his arms and legs chains and putting on a charge belt... I was the one with the light him up remote.

I remember you well Danny, that tall swagger that big sweet smile and always a pat on my shoulder as you ask,"how you Ms Sid"
Such a pleasant good looking young man in his patrol and other uniform. His Memorial Highway is in Franklin County, MS but we claim him in the Forrest county area as one of our own and remember him with the other fallen officers of the MHWSP District office off Hwy 49 south of Hattiesburg, MS, a display of his trooper hat in a memory cabinet and photo gallery in the public lobby.RIP

One of my high school best friend's older brother discovered Trooper Nash after the shooting had occurred and called for help on the car radio. It seems like yesterday when I was told the next day of what had happened to Danny. Then the days that followed going through the road blocks with Troopers seeking any information that would be helpful to the case. I don't get back to Mississippi much these days, but I still think about that night everytime I do visit and travel Highway-84.

Wow, so many years ago, and that night is still so vivid in my mind. I was radio dispatcher for Franklin County. A slow night like so many others, you left the office earlier that evening and my last words to you were, “Be careful out there”, words that I told each officer on their way out the door. Little did I know that would be the last thing I said to you. A couple hours later a citizen gave a mayday over your radio. Officer down, somebody please help. A call that shook our small county and changed us forever. How could something this awful happen here? I’ll always believe that you thought you had pulled over someone from your hometown and planned to ask about friends, give them a warning, and send them on their way.
Mississippi lost a good man that night at the hands of a couple of evil men. The only consolation is that they were caught and prosecuted. That won’t bring you back, but we’ll always remember you as a kind, respectful man who was full of life, always a jokester, fun to be around. You are gone but not forgotten.

Danny and I went to Petal High together and we were in the choir there. He was such and fun loving and very mischevious but loveable guy. Would do anything for you or with you. Such a senseless loss. It seems like it was just yesterday. Days pass so quickly and time just does not stand still. He is still to this day one of my most memorable moments from high school. Miss you Dude!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 29th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I hold your family in my heart's embrace today. To your many friends who have left such loving and respectful reflections, thanks for sharing a friend's eternal devotion to their beloved Danny.

Rest In Peace
