Reflections for Patrolman Guy Ray Myers, Jr.
My father, Carlos Prado Sr. was a motorcycle officer with Mr. Myers. I hurt my dad deeply when Mr. Myers was killed in that wreck. He came home to tell my mother, and he broke down crying in her arms!
I remember Mr. Myers well. He was a really nice young man! El Paso truly lost an awfully good officer and human being! I hope his children are all well. They were so little back then. I have not seen them since the cookout in October of that same year that Mr. Myers passed away at the Academy on Scenic Drive.
God rest his soul. I am sure he and my dad have spent lots of time together since my dad joined him in 2014. Dad always missed him!

I was just 14 years old when you passed but had known you through my father who was also a motorcycle officer with you. I remember your bright smile and your contagious laugh!
I think my father always missed you since the day you left and I remember how hard he cried the day that he came home to tell my mother of your passing. My mother was equally devastated. They both thought the world of you
But now, he's up there with you in heaven. He had to wait 45 years to see you again, but I think he's having the time of his eternal life with you.
Rest in Peace Guy Myers! I'll always remember you well!

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 43rd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your family for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Even though I have never met you, I just want to honor you for your sacrifice. I am proud to be a "Myers," and so is your surviving son and three grandchildren.
It was such a tragic and terrible accident; you were taken away so young. I wish I would have gotten to know you and that you would have been a part of all of our lives watching your son and grandchildren grow up--attending our wedding, celebrating your grandkids' birthday parties, hearing them play at band and orchestra concerts, high school graduations, seeing your grandson off to the US Marine Corps, etc.
Ken says it was VERY HARD growing up without a father; he loves you and misses you very much. You passed away when he was only a child, but through it all, he has become a stronger person--thanks to our God, Jesus Christ.
I do think about you and wonder what you were like. My mother-in-law tells me that there are many traces of yourself, including a warrior-like spirit and braveness in your son and even in your grandson. So your legacy lives on in them.
You are greatly missed and will never be forgotten.
From your loving daughter-in-law.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
