You were like a father and a mentor to countless children of East Moline and surrounding cities. Because of your positive impact in our lives we have become people of character and virtue and have children of our own. When you were shot down in front of us in the neighborhood that you loved,it was as if we were shot. When you died you took part of us to the grave with you. But your influence will live in our hearts forever passing down from our children to their children , forever.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. . Your heroism and service is honored today, the 43rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace.

I was born and raised in the Watertown area of East Moline. I worked for many years at Jake's Cafe in Watertown and knew many of the East Moline Police officers, including Officer Morton. I remember him as a very kind and gentle man who always had a smile and a kind word for all. It was such a shock to our community when Officer Morton was shot and killed and a tremendous loss to all. Renaming the street on which he lived to Morton Drive helps to keep him alive in the memories of those who were honored to know him.
