Reflections for Patrolman Leonard Russell Morris
Patrolman Russell,
On today, the 90th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army in Europe fighting the Germans during World War I as a member of the 29th “Blue and Gray” Division which the 116th Infantry Regiment was a part of. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

A red-headed Grandfather that I never was priviledged to know but, heard many stories about from his loving wife, Lenora Nash Morris, my Grandmother, who was left to raise 5 young children alone. She never married again and did a superb job of raising my Father and her other four children. My Father, Samuel B. Morris, Sr. was just a small boy when you passed, he too, would have liked the priviledge of having a Dad as he grew to become a man. Thank you, Leonard Russell Morris for your Service on the Police Force and to our country in WWI. Your memory lives on through your decendants . You paid the ultimate sacrafice. I salute you!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 78th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace.

Patrolman Morris,
On today, the 73rd anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Roanoke. I think it was a travesty of justice that your murderer was only sentenced to 10 years in prison.
