David Bennett Morrell was 56 years old at the time of his death. He was a member of Olympia Masonic Lodge No.1, he was also, a member The Grand Army of the Republic Post No.5, Major General Milroy Post Commander.
He was buried March 3, 1903, in his Union Army uniform and his Deputy badge pinned to his chest.

On today, the 120th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the Union Army as a member of the 48th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend deepest sympathy.

I have been honored to place flowers and flags on your grave for many years since I found you. Thank you for your service not only in the Civil War but the Spanish American War. We will visit your grave this week again.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 109th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
