Reflections for Deputy Edgar Maurice Bowie Moore
May 20, 2024. For the past several years I have been playing the part of Deputy Moore in the reenactment of Sam Bass bank robbery in Roundrock Tx. I assume this is the same Deputy Morris Moore. He was the first Lawman to fire upon at Bass and his gang and Deputy Moore was wounded. These are what we have about the incident. Deputy Moore was with Deputy A W Grimes when Grimes approached the gang and fatally shot. As a actor I was very courios

I see that this is marked as an unknown assailant. I might be able to give 140 year old evidence, as I neglected to say that my family bible names the shooter as J Manuls (probably misspelled, as was the word "assassanated").

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 123rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Rest In Peace

In the midst of my Austin-born Greatgrandmother's Family Bible, amoungst deaths of relatives and ancestors, a lone entry in difficult-to-read script reads "Marce R Moore, assasinated November 10, 1887". Just today, I found this website and solved part of the mystery. Whoever he was, he merited the only non-family entry in the entire Bible. I would visit his grave (if I knew where it was) in honor of him and whichever ancestor was so affected by his death.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003). Unfortunately, I had to add the name of another friend recently. Deputy Jeffery Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff’s Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.
I want to honor all of those who gave their life in the line of duty. Although your death was many many years ago, you are still a hero.
God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.
