A noble act with a tragic outcome. A true officer of the people and prohibition.

Sheriff Charles W. Moore was my great grandfather. Because he was taken in death at the prime of his life, I did not get to know him. As a child I was told many stories about his love of people and his home. He was large in stature but had a large heart for kind acts he bestowed on the people he met. I like many cousins did not realize the killer and his accomplice were pardoned by our Governors. I cannot find the reasons for those acts. As a youth growing up in Caldwell, many people told me stories about great grandpa Moore and I am proud they knew him.

Charles W Moore was my great grandfather. I was told by family members that they the two who shoot him were bootleggers. I didn’t know they were both pardoned after serving such a short sentence. I find that sad a governor would do that. It was quite a tragedy to my mother’s family.

Sheriff Moore,
On today, the 85th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Noble County. I think it was a travesty of justice that your murderers didn't serve more than 17 years for their crime.
