Reflections for Sheriff George E. "Doc" Moody

George Moody was my great grandfather. He was only 48 when he was killed. They called him Doc Moody as he was also the veterinarian in the area.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 98th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace

Robert, your grandfather was a remarkable, well respected member of the community, and popular as an honest Sheriff. I have some further info if you would like. If you should see this, you may contact me at the Denver Police Dept. I worked in Richland County for several years and did the research on Evan Jones, and some on Sheriff Moody.

I wish I could have met him but I wasn't born until 1935 and my father Claude Moody, his youngest son, was only 15 when Sheriff Moody was killed. Many in those days said he was so popular as the Sheriff as well as a vetanarian he was being asked to run for the U.S. Senate.
