Reflections for Police Officer Emilio Quinones-Santana

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 18th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I hold your family in my heart embrace today and pray for their solace.

It has been over sixteen years since that fatal night. We were in different patrol cars after the suspect when suddenly we heard a gunshot and your vehicle went off to the side. A few seconds later the suspect crashed into a fastfood restaurant. We put him under arrest only to find out that you were shot in the chase. It was the longest 35 minutes I have waited in the Emergency Room having the suspect under custody and waiting to receive the news of your death. There was not one Police Officer there that didn''t begin to cry or at least have tears come to his or her eyes.
Making that arrest looked good in the eyes of other Officers but it actually was one of the hardest and sadest moments of my life. I had the obligation and responsability as a Police Officer to safeguard the security of the suspect who just killed a fellow Police Officer.
Upto this date, I still reflect on that event when I confront dificult situations and say to myself "there was nothing harder than being a Police Officer in that moment."
