Family, Friends & Fellow Officers Remember...

I worked with Louie on Crime Stoppers on several occasions back in the mid 80s. I was a photog for KTUU, and worked with Louie showcasing their special crimes that we were portraying.

Nice guy, and one of those people you remember always.

I remember well the smile Lou always had, his quick wit, his love of life. He was always good to us dispatchers, not all officers were. (Most of them were though). Lou was fun, never complained about anything. It was an incredible loss to all those who knew him, and the citizens of Anchorage he put his life on the line for. You are still missed Officer Mizelle, and you always will be.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 23rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

You were a wonderful man.... I was so In love with you, Angel his daughter, Nettie his mother....I enjoyed our time together and wonder how you are. A large part of my life left with you when you passed. I had a serious relationship with him, my friend, lover. I was on the USS Ft Mc Henry when he passed, just could'nt get there soon enough. I still, so many year later understand the impact you had on my life.... I never said good by till now..... RIP my sweet friend, I still miss you after all these year!

I worked with Louie as an investigator when I was stationed at Elmentdorf AFB. When I arrived and assigned to the office, he immediately put me at ease. He was a great investigator and partner. He was a great friend who was always there to help you and your family when you needed him. He was always positive and passionate about his work. He was a great cop who alweays told me, "Don't let the bad guys get you down".

To Officer Mizelle's Family,

I served with your dad at Elmendorf AFB in 1980-1982. Lou worked with the OSI unit out of our Air Force Police Squadron building and always had a good joke and a dry sense of humor. I remember hearing he was going to be an Anchorage Police Officer and admired him for choosing that path in life. Your dad was a great guy and stellar example for me as a young police officer. He was a true hero and I think of him every time I read the Memorial Pages. I hope life has been good to Lou's family. Your dad accomplished so much in such a little time. He will not be forgotten.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I was deeply disturbed to read that Louie had been murdered. I was assigned and worked close with Louie in the early seventy's at Vandenbery AFB, CA, 4392nd Security Police Squadron, Missile Operations Section. I remember when Louie had to transfer to Lackland AFB, TX, so he could relocate with his wife, who was also in the Air Force. I met up with him again, before deploying to South East Asia, when attending the Air Base Defense Training at Lackland and Camp Bullis Texas. We had a great time! I remember his dedication and professionalism and how serious he was as an Instructor. He will always take a special place in my heart. My sincere condolences to his family, he was a great human being!

Officer Mizelle:

I worked as senior officer of your cousin Ronnie in NC at the time of your death. Our department sent flowerrs and he was very saddened as were we all. Your senseless death hurt our family that extends from the Arctic Circle to the Dry Tortugas and every place in between. I offer my sincerest condolences to your familiy, friends and collegaues. So many years later, time has not diminished your sacrifice. Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends, John 13:15. I was only 2 when my uncle Louie was shot, so I didn't get a chance to know him. But from the descriptions of him from my family, make me admire him so much. I only wish that I could be half the person that he was. When my grandmother passed away a few years ago, I knew that they were up in Heaven wrapped in God's arms united once again. I miss him dearly and wish I that I could've had the chance to get to know him more. May you always be watching over us....

I just found this page and was happy to see Louie honored this way. I served with Louie at Elmendorf AFB, 21st Security Police. He taught me to shoot the .38 revolver good enough to go with him to the 1980 World Wide Security Police Markmanship Championships at Lackland AFB. He was a great friend and officer. After all these years I still think of him often.

Lou, when you left us you left a big hole that even after all this time is still empty. Hopefully you and your mom are having some wonderful conversations now that she has joined you. I always enjoyed getting her letters and knowing that she and your dad considered our family to be part of theirs. I miss your goofy grin and your sense of humor and those incredible outtakes from your Crimestoppers reenactments, especially the ones you guys filmed at our house. The kids miss you and talk about you often -- even though they were young when your watch ended, you will always be in their thoughts, and in mine. I know that you are watching over us and that you are always "on patrol".

My father was very good friends with Officer Mizelle. My father is still a Sergeant with the Anchorage, AK Police Department. I know how much this affected my father when Office Mizelle passed.

I am happy to say that this past summer, my girlfriend and I were able to go to Washington, DC. I made a trip to the Law Enforcement Memorial and went there for the sole purpose of stenciling Officer Mizelle's name on a piece of paper and sent it back to Alaska for my father. To this day I have not forgotten that day or the events that occurred. You are always in my thoughts and I know my father is a better Officer for having known you. Rest in Peace Officer Mizelle. You have not been, nor will you ever be forgotten!
