To the friends and family of Officer Miyares, my condolences. I come to ODMP, if not daily, every other day. While reading the reflections I noticed a couple of names that were always showing up. Mrs. Miyares was one of them. I must admit that I took exception to this. To me, it seemed that it took away from the law enforcement member memorialized. Someone who was pushing their own loss. I don't know what I thinking. I now realize that Terry was showing support for the berieved like only she and others so close to the subject can. May God bless the family and all that are touched in their life by such circumstances. And rest assured...The Lord has changed my point of view.

To the family of Officer Miyares Our thoughts and prayers are with you, we too have lost someone special. I have read many times where you have sent your condolences to family of lost ones. It comforts me to know that that someone else knows the pain that we are going through.
May God Bless you and your family.

Mrs. Miyares: I just want to tell you that you have truly been an inspiration to me - your dedication to your husband that you lost in 1986 has been truly uplifting. Too many times people just tend to forget over time. I had two police friends get killed in November, 2001 and have been visiting here often since then. You posted condolences and I looked up your husband's story on here and read his reflections. I know he must have been a WONDERFUL man and I know he is proud of you and your children. Even though I haven't met him or you,the love you all shared has touched my life and I pray that God and your husband will continue to watch over your life and the lives of your children.

Dear Terry,
You are an inspiration to me! I would see your encouragement and knew if you could do it - so could I! I have been so blessed even through our terrible sadness of losing Barry to come in contact with people who understand and know the grief of this kind of loss. I take sweet comfort in the assurance that today he is in heaven encouraging me to finish the race (Hebrews 12:1). Thank you for your encouragement. You are a wonderful woman!
Love,
Cathy

To Emilio, I never met you, but I know only the best put on the blue uniform. You made the ultimate sacrifice and I know the world is a better place for the life you lived.

To Terry Miyares -

On June 7, 2001, my friend Joseph Cushman was shot and killed in a training accident. He changed my life so drastically and so positively, I do not think I have ever experienced such a writhing, endless pain as I did and sometimes still do. It felt like I was being stabbed in the heart repeatedly. It is an absolute nightmare. Since then, I come back now and then about every two weeks to check up on Joey's reflections and browse other fallen officers' pages. Like Emilio, Joey died at 27. He was not married but he and his girlfriend Pia were thinking about it. Right now she is in a position similar to yours. Joey will never live out the American dream of starting a family, but he lived out his dream of becoming a cop.
My point is, every now and then you meet a person and you can hardly believe your luck. You think, "Thank you so, so much God, for sending me this angel!" They change you as a person. They make you better in every way and when you pick up the phone and it is them calling, you go into a state of complete euphoria. You wonder if it's possible for them to really be this great. They truly leave footprints on your heart. They also leave a whole new world of pain when they pass on.
For me, this person was Joey. For you, obviously, Emilio. While browsing ODMP I noticed a lot of the reflections you have left, not only for Emilio but also for other officers. I would really, really, really like to talk to you and am working on getting my email address to you thru ODMP. Thanks, and I am so, so, sorry for your loss. I know what a well-lived life cut short feels like, and my prayers are with you.

Casey

I still miss my friend Emilio. He was truly one in a million.

To the Miyares Family,
First, my deepest sorrow for you and your family for having to endure a very high hurdle in life. My father and his two brothers were in law enforcement for 30+ years and god willing, we did not have to endure the pain and sadness that your family has had to accept. I have always had a strong interest in law enforcement and tried for almost 10 years but was never selected to serve. I have moved on now, gotten married and have two beautiful rugrats(children)of my own. Almost everyday I look at this web site and think of those people whose lives are changed forever. For the extreme dedication of the men and women who serve to protect us, they must not be forgotten. I salute you and your family for having the respect to remember your husbands sacrifice, the other fallen officers, your own sacrifice and those of your children. We will never meet and never know one another, but in some strange way, we will know each other in our minds and in our souls for we share the common element of sorrow. In our present time, we have little things that we can use to show our children of the many mentors and heros that have gone before them. This web site will be one that I may use to tell my son and daughter of what "true" mentors and heros are made up of. Proudly, your husband, and the many before him and the many that will follow, will be recognized for their devotion. I render a salute to you and your family and slowly drop it with a tear in my eye. Continue to fight for his legacy and may god be with you.
