Reflections for Police Officer Emilio Fidel Miyares

I remember the day that Officer Miyares was tragically killed, I remember the local news channels carrying the story. I was 20 years old and still living in Hialeah where I had grown up. I have now been in law enforcement for over 20 years and I currently work as the academy director for the WSCC East Tennessee Regional Law Enforcement Academy. It seems that it was just yesterday that Officer Miyares was taken from us. I lost a great friend from Hialeah in 2006 Octavio Gonzalez (St. John's Parish LA.) who was also killed in the line of duty. As I was reading thru Officer Miyares reflections I couldn't help but sit at my office and cry. I have been blessed and protected so many times while working patrol or as a special agent. It is great to read Terry's reflections on here, so many times we forget our heroes . As I read her reflections it's as if we have experienced their family growing up right before our eyes. I try to share Octavio's tragedy with each one of our cadet classes and from now I'm dedicated to also share Officer Miyares life as well. To his family I want to say thank you for reminding me of the important things in life and the importance of sharing ODMP with our young cadets. God bless you.

Hi Emilio, on November 6, marks 25 yrs of your trip up to Heaven to be with our Lord. We miss you today as much as we did that awful Nov. 6, 1986. Life has changed, our kids from 4yrs and 7 yrs old are two wonderful adults; responsible and strong (just like you). I hope that you are as proud of them as I am, I believe I did a good job, I can’t ask for better kids; and to top it all our grandkids, they are my life and I know that you would of have much fun with them; they all know you and love you as if you were here. Even if is 25 yrs that you have been gone we all need you.

Love you always and forever , your wife, kids and grandkids

I remember that night that Emilio was shot down. I was a detective at the time and I was assigned to Internal Affairs and was called to the scene from my home. This night is very vivid to me and while reflecting on Emilio, I remember him as a great Person,Officer and Friend. God Bless you and your family.

Officer Miyares, as a longtime resident of South Florida, I just wanted to say your sacrifice is not forgotten. I see your wife post on several officer's memorial sites, and I feel it is important to let her know that this citizen is thankful for you. May you rest in peace Officer Miyares
