Chief,

I know that my sense of right and wrong had to come from you! I thank you for that. I am your granddaughter but we never had the chance to meet, you were taken to soon. I know I would have loved you dearly from all the family stories that I heard growing up.

I am proud to be your granddaughter!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the sixty-second anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my cherished son Larry Lasater who was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Wake Forest was and is such a small community that your loss must have been a devastating blow to your family, department and community.

Chief Mitchell,
Though I never knew you, I would like to take a moment to say thank you. It is officers such as you that paved the way for the rest of us to enter this profession. We owe you a debt of gratitude for your ultimate sacrifice. As the brother of a fellow officer from your agency, I know the tremendous pride he feels putting on that Wake Forest uniform and I know he serves as proudly and professionally as you did. Your death was not in vain Chief Mitchell, you gave your life for the good of humanity. That in itself makes you a TRUE HERO. Rest in peace brother.
