Reflections for Police Officer Edward E. Mitchell

Hi, Mr. Mitchell. This is Hubert, Eddie’s friend from Corsa Avenue. I was thirteen when you were taken from Eddie, Mrs Mitchell and us. My folks were breaking up and I was going through a hard time. I remember that you would always stop your motorcycle when you were passing our house and talk to me. It’s almost as if you knew that I was going through a difficult time. It meant a lot to me that you took the time to talk to me. I never got a chance to say thank you. I want to thank you today. I think of you every year when this day comes around. I looked up to you then, and I look up to you now. I hope that you and Eddie are happy together again.
Love,
Hubert

This week Edwards great nephew, Jahzere Springs, completed the Youth Explorers Program. Jahzere is currently working at the 81st Precinct in Brooklyn and looking forward to becoming a Police Officer.

The Mitchell Family is honored to present Jahzere to the New York Police Department.

Edward, your living was not in vain. Rest in Paradise, until we meet again.

To the Mitchell family, my deepest condolences, after 39 years life won't let you forget. My name is Jeffrey Miller, we have never met, we don't know each other however we are linked forever. On July 15 1977 about 2pm in the afternoon I was driving on Fordham Rd near the Major Degan and was mistakenly picked up for the shooting of your father and husband. It took me many years to understand the depth of your pain and loss. That Friday changed your lives forever. I found this site and have read every message from Mae and Ed Jr. for many years in silence, I feel it's time to let you know I pray for your family often, and believe, because of the brave and heroic acts of Officer Mitchell, I would be humbled to meet you, so we can tell our stories.
May God bless you.
Respectfully Jeffrey Miller

It was my honor to research newspapers, books and magazines and finally find your ID Card Photo from a 1977 Spring 3100 magazine article and make sure your photo was put on this site. I wanted to put a face to your heroism in the Line of Duty. I did the research because you are a brother officer and no matter how many years past, you will always be remembered. Rest Easy Hero.

In remembrance of your life here on earth. 38 years ago today our family suffered the lost of losing you. I will never forget the moment, second, minute on July 15, 1977 when I watch on the television your lifeless body be taking into the Hospital. It hurt as much today as it did then.

This year we participated in the Police Unity Tour, We Ride For Those Who Died. The love and respect that was shown to us by your brothers and sisters throughout the nation was superior.

I will forever keep your memory alive.

Missing you!

Peter Rabbit,

Wow! We have arrived at this date again, July 15th...another anniversary that you are away from home.

This year, Peter was very special for our family, and especially for me. A friend who shares a unity connection celebrated your life. He rode his bike form NJ to Washington, Dc in your honor. He rode with fellow officers who keep memories alive. What a celebration of life shared.

Continue your watch over Mae and the rest of the family, which now includes Sgt Manuel Antonio Camuñas.

Love ya still,

Charlie

Hello everyone, my name is Manuel Camuñas and I'm a Police Officer in Branchburg NJ. I came across this page through a dear friend of mine, Charlie Mitchell. I met Charlie a few years ago. We developed a friendship and although we don't see each other that often, when we do is as if we had seen each other the day before. She is a great person and I'm fortunate to know her.
Recently Charlie told me about this cousin of her, Eddie, who was an NYPD officer who gave the ultimate sacrifice on July 15, 1977. I have read all of the comments below and I'm honored to be allowed on this page. Seems like Eddie and his family are a great bunch of people.

On May 9th of this year, I will be riding in the Police Unity Tour, Chapter 1 Challenge ride for the second time along with 1800 officers from around the country. I will be riding my bicycle from New Jersey to Washington DC in honor of ALL who paid the ultimate price while protecting us. This year will be special, since I will be riding to honor NYPD Ofc. Edward E. Mitchell. Our estimated arrival date in Washington DC is May 12th at approx. 2pm.

Thank you for allowing me to post this and may you all be well.

RIP Ofc. Edward E. Mitchell

Peter Rabbit,

As you know Edward, Jr, our Jonesy, has joined you in slumber. He left us on November 22, 2014...a day before my mom's 1st anniversary. They both have marked my calendar, that I never will forget them.

Meantime, Mae gained another angel to watch over her. I pray that she will find solace in knowing Jonesy suffers no more, and rests well with you.

Love you family,

Charlie

My heart hurts today and my eyes welled up with tears as I learned about P.O. Edward "Peter" Mitchell. On the sad anniversary of his loss, I read the words of his awesome wife Mae, pledging her enduring love and never, ever, letting him go. And his son, Ed Jr., I give you a huge hug, you make your Pop very, very, very, proud for sure. You must be a great guy too. Any man would consider himself blessed beyond our wildest dreams to have such loyal and loving souls like you two for a wife and son. We must never let his memory fade away, you must teach and remind those who never knew him of who he was and what happened, and keep him ever present in your family. God Bless you Mae and Ed Jr., and God Bless you Police Officer Edward Mitchell Sr., NYPD.

Hi, Peter.

It is almost that time again for remembrance. Years have passed but your family still misses you. We miss your smile. We miss your laughter. I always loved telling people that I had a cousin named Peter Rabbit! What amusement for some but for me, you were my BIG cousin that I adored...

I am sure you know that my Mom, Katie, (Aunt Tea) took the journey home in November of 2013. Like you, I miss her so much!

As always, I am keeping your family, Mae and Edward in my prayers. As this anniversary nears, they too will feel the pain anew in missing you.

Love you then, and love you still, Peter Rabbit,

Charlene

Such a kind sweet caring soul. Peter, the loving husband and father and hero will never be forgotten. It is a testament to a great man, who unbeknownst to him, touched so many. I am honored to have met him. My prayers and thoughts go out to your lovely wife, son and granddaughter.

Will always remember him

Peter Rabbit,

Another year has passed since your leaving and it still saddens me to know that you are no longer here. I know in my heart that you never left and have watched and protected Mae and Edward all these years. I know that you have been at every family event...watching and loving us the only way you could.

You are gone my cousin but never will you be forgotten.

You were taken away when I was just 6 months old. Although, you were taken too soon I still feel like you have been apart of my life because I have been fortunate to have family that have kept your spirit alive. I have heard some great stories about you and really wish I could have personally known the sound of your voice or the sound of your laugh. Continue to R.I.P. your spirit shall always live because I will share those same stories with my children hoping they will do the same.
Love,
