Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jack B. Miller

65, OMG! You’re probably laughing at us seniors while you’re as handsome as ever, frozen in time in our minds yet warm in our hearts.
Sometimes I still miss you so much it hurts.

Sending buddy hugs wherever you are.❤️

Happy Heavenly Birthday Jack, 65, wow! My heart still aches that you were taken from us way to soon. I hope I’m around long enough to share stories of you with your 4 grandkids. Still happy to say that 2 of yours and 2 of mine all go to the same school and spend lots of play time together . I know that would please you as much as it does me. Rest In Peace knowing you are always loved and never forgotten .

Dear Jack - Today is no less sad and tragic than it was 31 years ago. We still have doubts and questions but answers won’t bring you back to us.

Most of us are Grandparents now, and I often think how much your children and grands miss out by not having you here, joking around with that wry sense of humor, or throwing a football or maybe going to the ocean with your pals like Tom. I think of how we’d probably not be thrilled with each other’s political leanings but we’d still be close. I’d hope I’d be still able to share secrets and talk on for hours. I miss your kindness.

They are tearing most of our school down.. got to make it ‘better’, ‘newer’, ‘fancier’ but I’ll be there tomorrow making sure no one touches your memorial, it’s the only place I can lay flowers and remind others just starting out in the Polygon, that you matter still and are to be looked up to and honored.
My heart still sinks, my head still hears the phone call, the tv breaking news, and I see you daily in our 10 yr. reunion photo. I picture you as you’d be now, a little greyer maybe but more handsome than ever.
I’m not much of a believer but if there really is something later, I sure hope we meet again.
You are so missed and so loved.

My dear brother Jack, I miss you. I really, really miss you. I miss your smile, your goofy laugh and your sense of humor. You and I could talk for hours about our lives, past, current and future. We never discussed the possibility of you not being here and sharing conversations about retirement and grandchildren. You would have been an awesome grandpa and every time I'm with your sweet little ones I weep inside that they aren't able to know you. This summer your fourth grandchild will join the family. We're all excited and looking forward to meeting him.

This anniversary of your shooting seems to come around faster and faster. Thirty-one years have passed, Generally when we speak of and remember you, we are recalling happy memories. Today and tomorrow however we will all be re-living the sad and painful memories of losing you. God Bless you Jack and may you continue to Rest in Heavenly Peace. I love you.

Jack;
I cannot believe how long it has been....I honestly think of you and all the great times we had at Byrd & Poly and all our stories from the job. Those were the best days...I do not think you ever knew what a great inspiration and role model you were to so many of us....miss you so much, God Bless

When I was 15, I looked so much forward to the weekends to go on a ride along as a LASO Explorer, my adopted partners were Hak Scott and Jack Miller from the Norwalk station. They shaped my life to later go to the academy and become sworn in the LA area. When I heard of the tragedy in 88, I was devastated. I have never forgotten my mentor and friend. I doubt anyone will read this 30 Years later, but if you do please know what a great, kind, and brave person Deputy Jack Miller was.

To my best buddy-
I can only imagine you at 64 today...greying, handsome as ever, funny, kind, and assuming we’d be agreeing to disagree politically but it would never change the love and respect for you.
You are missed so much more than you would have imagined. The four girls still hang together and you’re always part of our thoughts and talks. And always in my heart. I hope you’re children feel how much you were adored, from family, friends, classmates, co—workers. They only had you for a short time but maybe they can sense how we knew the kind of boy to man you became.
I’m not one to believe, but if you exist in a safe place, hope you’re being celebrated today on your Birthday as we toast you down here❤️

Always here for you,

May 24, 2018

Wishing you a Happy Heavenly Birthday my dear brother. Words can't express the sadness and emptiness I feel not having you here to celebrate your 64th birthday. Life keeps moving on and would be so much sweeter if you were making memories with all of us. Your smile, your laughter and sense of humor are just a small part of what I miss about you. I love you Jack and will miss you always.

Dearest jack-
It's with deep pain and full heart you are celebrated today. Thirty years, an unimaginable amount of time without you on this earth, although you are with me always.
It still makes little sense to us all what really happened and hope one day to come to terms with the truth. But for now, lifelong memories of happier times with you, pride in your service and sacrifice for others, and love given to and received from family and friends is what brings a smile thinking of you everyday.
It's a crazy world these days, but we are blessed for the short time we had you in our lives.
It truly feels like yesterday you were here. If I could post photos you'd see your Memorial at Poly with flowers and of course, your apple!
Rest easy Jack, you are Loved Always & Forever,

You biggest fan and loving friend,

Today is a very painful anniversary, the night of 1/8/88 when you were gunned down while trying to get drugs off the streets of L.A. Thirty years have passed, lots of memories made, good and bad. Events that would have been even better had you been here to share them with me. You continue to be spoke of, remembered, loved and admired by so many . Bill Marsh shared memories of you and Dad that had us laughing and remembering the "old" days. I cherish hearing these happy stories. I will never ever forget the special bond we shared and will be forever grateful to have had you in my life for your short 33 years my dear brother.

My Dear Friend,

Still missing you as much today on your Birthday as if it were months after Poly Graduation. You are forever with me in my heart, in spirit and your handsome face is always framed nearby.
Hard to believe we're all 63 now, Grandparents, retiring, when clear memories of you Quarterbacking or walking home with me, yacking on the phone, (shhh, copying my test answers in Mr. Garcia's class, lol!) Hope somehow you know how much we all miss and love you Jack. 4evr. <3

Coincidentally, you graduated from this Academy in May 1976. Still hard to believe so much time has passed and that you have missed so much. You are in our thoughts, our hearts and will never be forgotten Jack. Still loving and missing you dearly.

Time is flying by, 29 years now since we lost you on 1/9/88. Mom and I just spent time reliving moment by moment that Friday night of 1/8/88. She is always asking if I thought you would have all gray hair by now. Funny the things she thinks of. All's well around here but would be so much better to be sharing life with you. The Dept. posted your photo (the one none of us think is very flattering) on Facebook with the details of your death. I check daily to read posts from friends/co-workers who leave a little reflection of you. You really made an impression on lots of people, your smile and humor are mentioned often. It really should not surprise me. You were a very handsome, good-humored, funny guy. I just probably never told you that because you were "just my little brother." I have a feeling you knew how much I admired and loved you though, as did Janice, Jim and Steve. To them you were their big brother who also stepped up when Dad passed away. We all miss you Jack and speak of you often. Your 3 grandkids and my 4 are still very close and love spending time together. They trick-or-treated together just like your girls did with my boys back in the "old" days. I know you would be so proud of your family. Keep looking over us Jack, this world of ours seems to be getting crazier and crazier. Missing and loving you alwys...

My dear Jack,

This week you would have celebrated your 62nd year...yes, my friend, we are getting old, but only in number. Still cheering for you on the field, remembering our many hours of phone and in person talks, and sharing wonderful memories of growing up are never more than a thought away and as close as your photo on my nightstand.. as if we are still in that place in the 60s/70s. Not a day goes by without saying good morning and that hopefully, one day I'll see you again. With Love.

Today we would be celebrating your 62nd birthday. Recently Laura told me how much she enjoys this website because she loves reading the posts made by friends of yours. I like to share stories I hear when I meet old LASD classmates/friends of yours. At the LASD retirement reunion I read the name tag Craig Boyett, I immediately remembered that he was backing you up the night of your shooting. He shared that when you asked him and Vic Moore to help out, the last words you spoke were "be sure to wear a vest." Sitting at the same table was a LASD classmate who shared stories and obviously thought a lot of you. He said several other classmates of yours were there but unfortunately our paths didn't cross. It's hard to picture you as retired , I'm sure we would share some good times. As alway, loved you then, love you still and always will my brother.

Jack;
I cannot tell you how much I think of you and all our great times. You have always been a great inspiration to me and a true American Hero. I honestly do not know if you realized how many people loved and admired you for so long. You were just the best!

I really enjoy reading Linda's updates about your grand kids and everything that is going on. I know you are looking over everyone as our protector. You are truly missed my friend.....Poly High 72

I think of you every day Jack. Your picture hangs over my desk. You my friend, my partner; you were my mentor, my golf partner. I was a wet sandwich in the day and you were always there for me. You were the first guy I rode in a radio car with; Lynwood and Malibu. Miss you a lot buddy.....best cop I ever knew....
