Reflections for Sergeant Stacy Edward Levay

Stacy...because of you I decided to do Security Police Augmentee Duty during my TDY on Guam...they had your name displayed on the LE window...I was so touch by what happened to you that I wanted to represent for all accounts a very fine man and airman. I was also sadden by the fact that you died on your birthday...I have always had the policy of never working on my birthday...I really wished you hadn't either that day...I never met you but wanted to show my respect for you by being a volunteer...tow the line that you did...as well as lay down my life for another as you did...the newspapers didn't give all the details but I was told that you sacrificed your life for the Commissary clerk's...what a man/airman for doing that...I hope when day comes that you will be one of the people I get to meet in the afterlife...RIP STACY...I have not forgotten you in all this time and I promise you I never will my brother in arms.

I was stationed at Anderson AFB Guam as a Security Specialist when Law Enforcement Sergeant Levay was murdered by Jose Simoy.
Simoy was an active duty airman and also a security specialist. Due to this he was aware of the procedures in dealing with money transports and had done them in the past. Due to Simoy having this knowledge, and having at least two other cowardly accomplices, were the only reasons he was able to ambush and murder Sgt. Levay.
Sgt. Levay is a Hero, he was a K9 officer also. I worked on the prisoner transport team taking the coward simoy from jail to court. I was also there when simoy was sentenced to death. I am shocked to find his death sentence was reduced to life in prison for such a cowardly crime.
Sgt. Levay was on a separate shift than I was on and I did not know him personally, but I do know he was well respected, well known for his professionalism and well liked by all. In addition he was an excellent Sgt. and a credit to this country. He must have been because I still remember him 23 years later.

I was one of the nurse staff on Guam, that took care of Stacy until he was taken off life support. His wife was Asian American and it seems to me that she returned to her native home (I want to say the Philippines).
The killers were active duty AF and should have received death, but only received life sentences.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 18th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
I pray for the solace of all who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.
Rest In Peace

Stacy,
I have had the pleasure of knowing your mother, who is a strong advocate for C.O.P.S.
She has such compassion and sympathy in her outreach to those who have lost officers in the line of duty.
Rest in peace; you will not be forgotten.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

After years of not knowing what happened to you, I was shocked to know that you had been killed in the line of duty. My heart goes out to your family and I only wish that I would of been in touch with you sooner. Memories flourish me as I look at your picture and pray that you are in peace. I have always loved you and wish that our lives would of been different. Rest in peace my love and may God be with you. Til we see each other again...

Time on the computer then turned into a visit down memory lane, trying to find people from the past that I served with in the Air Force. I was shocked beyond words to discover that a person that I had spent countless hours with on duty had perished under such circumstances.
My heart goes out to his family, friends and co-workers. Rest in peace Stacy.
