Reflections for Sheriff Charles Griffin Middleton
Thank you for your service and always know that your sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten. Rest in peace.

I was a young 13 year old child when Sheriff Griffin Middleton was shot and killed by Demos Wood in the "Canada Section" of Jackson County, North Carolina. The North Carolina Highway Patrolman with Sheriff Midleton that fateful day was John Sides, a neighbor of our family. Sheriff Middelton left behind his beautiful wife Selma, three daughters and a son. I attended every day of the murder trial and remember the jury delivering their verdict early in the evening hours on a hot summer's day, 64 years ago. Griffin Middleton was a good man, loved and respected. A fading memory for me.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.
GOD Bless
