Rest in peace always and know no passage of time can ever erase your service and sacrifice.

Doing ancestral research, Wilbert was the father of my great-aunt's husband Vernon (Mickey). When I bump into selfless heroism, I like to acknowledge the brave fallen.

I really appreciate the story above from Vernon's son Terry.

I am a grandson of Patrolman Wilbert McMicken. My name is Terry McMicken, and my father, Vernon A. McMicken, who was the first born of officer W. McMicken, was himself only 15 years old at the time. Wilbert's widow, Amanda {Setterlund} McMicken, had 5 children from 15 to 3 years of age. I recall my father saying that dreadful day was the end of his childhood and formal educaiton. Therefore, at the age of 15 he quit school and went to work. My father, Vernon McMicken, died at the age of 80, on January 2, 1986 [one day after my birthday], and was a retired public servant as the first full time salaried fire chief of Internation Falls, Minnesota.
Respectfully submitted by: son of Vernon, grandson of Wilbert McMicken,
Terrence {Terry} E. McMicken, El Paso, Texas. 3/05/2006

Grandson: Terrence E. McMicken
