RIP Allen . You will always be " Deputy Dawg" to me. Having only worked with you for 7 years , I know that you were one of the most dedicated and devoted officers on NRPD. I lost alittle of myself that day at Neptune and wish that we could have gotten to you sooner . February 14, 1977 will forever be on my mind as one of the longest days of my life

I just realized something about the date Officer McLeod was killed along too many others, he died saving me and man, helped by many of his brothers and sister's in Law Enforcement. They saved many, myself amongst the many. I have a beautiful daughter, born on February 14, Valentine's Day. Some would call that irony, I call it God. Thank you God for Officer McLeod and the child sent to me on the day the angels cried, perhaps I owe thanks and Officer and Angel, Bruce McLeod, for choosing that date for the angels to once agin rejoice. I apologize to his family and all who knew him that it has taken me all this time to say a simple 'Thank You'. Dear Lord, tell Officer McLeod that I love him, like a brother but choose to remember him as a Father. Amen

As a high school student on my way to school a mass killing began along our path as it was just beginning to see a Police response and as we were in the car and being directed by Police to a safe path from the danger ahead, I saw the patrol car and the blood of the officer who lied bleeding, his rescuers unable to reach him. I prayed so hard he would live. A man who callously killed 6 if I remember correctly. Please never leave our Police Officers be out gunned and victimized because we did not as a society do everything we could to make sure such a sad memory ever befall anyone else.

Well it’s coming up on Thirty-One years. I can’t believe how the time has past. I think about you and a Deputy/Friend that was also taken on almost the same anniversary date. I just want you to know you’re missed. Not just by your family and friends but others too. I hope I can meet you one day and we can be friends.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Patrolman Allen Mcleod, I was a twelve year old child when you were tragically taken from us. I was a kid that grew up with a lot of love and not much direction. I remember you being a stern cop that didn't take guff from anyone. I feel sorry for thinking you were mean and tough on those older kids that thought that being a punk was "cool". Years later I became a Deputy Sheriff. I recently looked up your memorial page. Your memory brings tears to my eyes. I want to tell you & your family how sorry I am. I wish I could meet you and tell you in person. I try to be a cop like you were. I know if your son is like you he's a great cop. I hope he has a long & safe career that you also deserved. Rest in peace Brother.
