Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Patrolman David A. McKee, Sr.

I never had the honor to meet you, but I would like you to know the stories of your life live on and are being told to your grandchildren and great-children. Not just the stories of your heroism and bravery but also the stories of your love of the outdoors and the devotion to your family and the community. Thank you.

I grew up hearing my grandmother tell me the story of a hero who died trying to save my mother's cousin in the river. It was you. I know it may not mean much but his family tells stories of the hero who gave his life trying to save keith's. God Bless you and your loved ones.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003). Unfortunately, I had to add the name of another friend. Deputy Jeffrey Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff’s Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

Patrolman McKee, you are remembered on this date of your death. You will always be remembered.

You gave your life trying to save another. You are a true hero.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

Major Timothy & Theresa McKee sends their condolences to Timothy’s family members in memory of his father, Patrolmen David A. McKee Sr.

MAJ McKee is the fifth son of Patrolmen McKee and was eight years old when Patrolmen McKee gave his life in the line of duty.

I have great memories of my father and the service that he gave to the Fort Atkinson community.

I truly appreciate that the Police Forces throughout America recognizes these brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

I would like to thank everyone who visits the ODMP website for honoring my father and not forgetting his service and duty to the Fort Atkinson Police Department.

Sincerely
