As a child, my Nana and my mother told me amazing stories about my grandfather. James McGillion was a hero I never met. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII, as part of multiple B17 Bomber crews. All total my grandfather flew 33 missions in the European theater. He was awarded Two Silver Stars, Two Bronze Stars, and The Distinguished Fly Cross, during this time.
My mother was 8 years old when he died with a younger sister and brother. His legacy is something I have always strived to live up to.
Until we finally get to meet sir.

You had a loving son who missed your presence in his life. Others need to remember the sacrifices our offices’ families make as their loved ones protect us.

I was with my 90 year old mother today (Mary McAneny-Brogan) and although her memory is fading she does remember her cousin Officer James McGillion and how on the day he was killed her Dad{Patrick McAneny) cried like a baby. As long as she lives she will never forget him...he was her hero....and was very proud of him. God bless him, his family and all our officers. Liz Scanlon

Patrolman McGillion was my Great Uncle James, husband to my Grandpa's sister, Aunt Peggie. On the family occasions I would visit with her, she would always speak of James McGillion with so much love and pride. Every single day of her life she wore a small replica of his shield around her neck. I miss Aunt Peggie and will always admire her for the fierce way in which she loved, laughed, and kept Uncle James' spirit alive. I truly believe he lived on in her and through their three children. May you both rest in peace.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 58th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
