Your family at CTF remembers you on this 43rd anniversary of your senseless murder on March 4, 1971. Although your killer is due to go before the parole board, we are fighting for you and your family to make sure he is not released. CTF employees will be visiting and reflecting at the memory garden throughout the day. Thank you for your service.

We honor Officer Robert McCarthy today. He is considered a family member of the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) and we mourn his loss. The flags fly at half mast for you today. The officers have draped their badges in your honor. CTF employees will be visiting and reflecting at the memory garden throughout the day. Thank you for your service. A highway sign on highway101 dedicating the highway to Officer McCarthy and the three other staff members killed in the line of duty is in the final stages. Highway 101 will be dedicated from the prison exit to the town of Gonzales.
We have had four staff tragically killed at CTF. I have made contact with all families with the exception of Officer McCarthy’s family. If Jason Haas or any other family member can please contact me it would be greatly appreciated.

Robert J. McCarthy was my grandmother's brother. I was born Robert J. Whitmire. I would like to thank everyone for their respective reflections. I also would like to thank everyone involved with the memorial ceremony. I would have attended the ceremony had i known about it. A friend of mine who currently is a CO at Soledad informed me about a memorial a few months ago for fallen officers in the 70's, so I got curious and it brought me here. Thanks again for honoring my Great Uncle and the sacrifice he made. Can't wait to see it!!!

We have honored Officer Robert J. McCarthy at the Correctional Training Facility (Soledad) with a memorial garden and bronze plaque. On May 17, 2012, a large ceremony was held with many law enforcement in attendance. It is important that we never forget the sacrifice that Officer McCarthy made. If you are a family member or friend of Robert McCarthy, I encourage you to contact me and I will arrange for you to visit the memory garden and will provide photographs of the ceremony.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 38th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was murdered on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. I worked as a CO at San Quentin in the late seventies so I understand how tough working behind those prison walls can be.
Rest In Peace. Your memory os honored and revered.
