Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Thomas P. McAvoy

My name is Patty Salk and I would like to leave this message and peaceful thoughts to Sargent McAvoys son, Tom. I knew and loved Tom during the 1960’ s when we both attended Ithaca college.
I have lost track of Tom and I will appreciate any help in locating him.
I am in my 70’s now.. memories are important reminders of young love.

I came upon this memorial trying to read about a shooting that s
occurred today. While I wasn't born when this occurred, I'm struck by how terribly sad and horrifying it is. I am grateful for those that serve and protect us each day. And I will remember officer McAvoy and his family.

I was a 12 yr old when this occurred. I remember how shocked we all were. I have never forgotten this tragic event. Today, I looked it up and will say a word.
Even in our sleep
Pain that can not forget
Falls drop by drop, upon the heart
And in our own dispair, against our will
Comes wisdom to us,
By the awful grace of GOD

Rembering Thomas Patrick and his bravery. A son of Albany, NY and a son of Patrick and Mary (Quigley) McAvoy (McEvoy) of Kildare, Ireland. The connection to Ireland was mislaid for many years but its not forgotten. Remembered by the extended Quigley family and Eibhlin. Ar deis de a anam dilis.

My name is SGT Robert J Huba, Aco 3-7 IN, I want to say thank you to the McAvoy family. My father is Gregory Huba, one of the children in the house that is described in this article. My grandfather, Robert J Huba (the owner of the house at the time of this tragedy) just passed away Oct 24, 2012 and now I am researching him and the family history. I came across this article in Tonawanda NEWS Wed, Jan. 29, 1964 (Massive Hunt Underway for Killer of Albany Cop) I want to say it's because of people like Sergeant McAvoy making the ultimate sacrifice to God and Country that people like myself grew up the way we did. Thank you.
