I am a relative of Ernest May. I am now 42 years old and I am one step from being accepted into the LVMPD Academy. I have heard stories of you through the years from family and I now possess the Holster you wore that day. Thank you for your sacrifice and we love you.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.
GOD Bless

My grandfather was Joe May ,his brother. My mother told me after Ernie was killed they made the patrolmen go two in a car. What I have read about Ernie he was a good church going man. Joe was the opposite, my grandmother divorce him because he [Joe]was a womanizer. Some of the stories I have heard about Joe shows that Las vegas had some real bad people in the early days. Joe was the illegitmate son of Rose Warren. Rose helped unwed mothers in the early days of LasVegas and that is why a school is named after her. Joe found Ernie that night he was killed. Joe was the first patrolman in Las Vegas.

There is a street in Las Vegas with his name. I used to drive by it every day near our Fire Station 3. The Las Vegas Police Department merged with the Clark County Sheriff and became the Metropolitan Police Department. I never knew the man, but think it is fitting that a street would commemorate his name.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 79th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

My grandpa May has been a hero to me since my mother(Daisy May Downer)first told me his story. I am currently researching his life, with the intention of writing a book about him and the impact his life had on not only his family, but on the settling of the Las Vegas area. Anyone who has any information at all about his early life and family may contact me at [email protected].

My Great Grandfather May was a man who sacrificed all for the protection of peace in a wild and thriving desert town. His mother, Rose Warren, was the first white woman to settle in the Las Vegas Valley. They were family people. Earnest loving his sweet wife Mamie, left her behind with their seven children, the youngest being just several weeks old. I would love it if the city of Las Vegas would consider granting him a larger headstone in the cemetary where he rests. We love you Great Grandpa May! You have left a wonderful legacy! May you rest in peace, and I look forward to the day when I can shake your hand and see your face.

I am just learning about my Great-Grandfather at the age of 35, I never learned about him before. I amd just sad to think of what awful things people can do. I just wish I had the chance to meet him. He is a Hero in my mind!
