Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Timothy J. Henck

Never had the pleasure of knowing you Tim , but I knew and worked with your beautiful Wife at the time of your death. It was a hearbreaking blow for those that worked with her. Your baby girl is 14 now, I am sure you are watching over her.
All these years later, you are not forgotten , and will never be.
Rest in eternal peace.

I said a little prayer today for Sergeant Henck and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

Thinking of you and your loved ones today. Continue to keep watch over them and appear to them in their dreams so they know you are close. You have not been forgotten.

I came across this site and this entry by accident - or perhaps it was serendipity. We who are engaged in law enforcement do so because we care about the lives all of us, no matter what we do, where we live, the colour of our skin, our origin, religious belief or however else society chooses to differentiate itself. I did not know Sergeant Henck, but I honour his sacrifice - and that of all of us who care for and protect the common wealth - so that all may live to have a better future. My sincere condolences to his family.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Tim,

You and I never met and that is my loss. I know, and have worked with your Brother, Jimmy. I wish I had the chance to meet you. I wish you all the best in heaven and know that you will never be forgotten. Your service to our community will never be forgotten. You are an inspiration for the younger generation of cops. God bless you and your family.

I went to the police academy with Timmy and worked with him in the third precinct. He was always a good guy and is missed by those of us that were fortunate enough to have know him. Its been 11 years since that tragic night but he is never far from my thoughts. Tim, God bless and thank you.

God bless you Timmy.Hard to believe it has been 9 years since you made the ultimate sacrafice. Time stood still in those few weeks after your passing.

This family thinks of you often and prays for you, and the beautiful wife and daughter you left behind.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, August 6, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Sergeant Timothy J. Henck who died in the line of duty on this date nine years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Sgt. Henck's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I was working as a Police Officer in New York City when you made the ultimate sacrifice. I'll never forget because 5 months later I was hired by Suffolk County. You will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace.

As a Suffolk County Police Cadet at the time of this incident, I can tell you that the mood was of disbelief and anger around the precinct. Now I sit here years later, and remember it as if it were yesterday. I have a family of my own now, and couldn't imagine the pain your wife and child are still going through. I pray everyday for them and for Officers and their families as we go to work everyday never knowing if we will be coming home. God Bless
