This year has already been tough to the members in public service who wear blue who we affectionately call police. Recently there was a loss in Hawaii where a suspect who suffered from some sort of mental issue and also called police a lot, shot and killed two Officers. As I am waking up from an over night shift and learn of another death and came to this site to learn more I instantly think of you!
This is your birthday month, Denise! Oh, how I wish that you where still here and we would run into each other at St. Aug. HomeComings... When I do make it back, I often reminisce we others over our class starting together and the plans that we had.
I will remember you always and I hope that you some how know.

You were such a brave and honorable person and you did good with your horribly short life. I am proud to have you as an ancestor. You will never be forgotten.

I Miss you Dearly and Think of you Often. You were an inspiration in My Life. We had sports in common “Namely” Basketball. You at St Aug. & me at Shaw U.
I met some incredible people over there that I still converse w/today because of you. I stayed over at St Aug. more than my own school., I soon needed my own School I.D. ;-)
When I heard of your passing “I Was Crushed”!! I still am... such a Beautiful Being.
You would’ve been approaching 25yrs in Law Enforcement and that doesn’t go unnoticed.
I Pray that I see 25yrs of service. I’m now in My 23rd year. The stories we should’ve been sharing.
I Love you Denise and I Forever Thank You for The Time Shared!

Another year has come and gone. I see that my last reflection was the most recent one. It doesn't get any easier and somehow I guess not visiting this page makes me feel like you're still around. So much has been happening and so many of your fellow officers have been taken away from their friends and family. Peace and protection to those that still have the courage to sign up to serve and protect the lives of others. May God continue to shield them as he did you. Love and miss you dearly.

Hello Denise c/o 89'!!!
You will be close to my heart next month especially because I will not be able to see you at this years multi-class reunion (c/o 71 to c/o 2013) at Cape Fear High. This will be my first one ever (25th) and I wanted so much to catch up with you and a few others that impacted my life and made me the person I am today. Ironically, I followed your foot steps in several ways in search of excellence, education, professional and achievement. I am a police officer in Nashville, TN and a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. I remember you as a very talented athlete on the court playing volleyball and basketball and around the track showing your speed competing in track and field. One thing that stands out was the ROTC Military Ball of 1988 were you and Derek (Moulden) were dancing ya'll tales off that electrified the crowd. May he too rest in peace; a fine runner and a good person. Denise you are simply, amazing!!! One of the best student-athletes and ROTC cadets I ever known. Patrol in Peace up there and continue to smile on all of us until we meet again.

I didn't know you personally but I've heard how great you were. I was the nurse brought to the scene of the accident that night with a trauma surgeon to give you every possible chance to make it. That was the only time we ever did anything like that. Your Brothers made that happen that night because they cared so much about you.
It was one of the saddest scenes that I've ever been on. It absolutely broke my heart when they got you out and there was nothing any of us could do to save you. I remember this event often and only find comfort in knowing that you are safe with God now. Rest in peace, Officer Holden.

Happy Birthday!!! Dance with the wind like no one is watching, but you were a free spirit and you didn't care if anyone was looking anyway, lol. Take it easy and don't party too hard; I remember those days!

Wow, here I am on the eve of your birthday. Ummmm 43 years old, getting on up there and this year marks 19 years that you've been gone. I think of you often, wishing that I could communicate with you and share what things have transpired in my life. I struggle with the day to day things and well, it's just so much has happened. Sometimes I don't know where to turn or what true friends I can actually talk to. Your friendship is one that I will cherish as long as I'm in the land of the living and of course when we see one another again, it'll be just like old times, lol.

Denise-
It’s me, your LS, # 8. This year marks our 20th year as members of Alpha Kappa Alpha and I hope you know how much it meant to me to have you as a Soror. Because of you, no matter how tough my days with AKA are, I remember why service and sisterhood is important. Every time I sing our hymn I see your face and that silly grin you had the first time we sang it as Sorors. We are going to do something special for you this year so, whisper in the ears of our other 10 line sisters for me; I’m going to need your help from the other side to pull this off. You may be physically gone, but “Baby Jordan”, will never be forgotten!

Hey my Spiritual Sister, I am just visiting the electronic cemetary of your memory today. You know what? Its amazing that you were 24 years old during your passing better yet, you also passed on the 7 month. I see it as 24/7. There is 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week. Wow! what revelation! You are an example of God's total creation of mankind! At age 24 your day was complete as 24 hours in a day; on the 7 month you were laid to rest as God rested on the 7 day after all he had created. You are an living epistle to all of us in that we need to finish our purpose in life now and stop wasting time because there is only 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week. We must work now while we have time because the Sabbath is fast approaching. That Sabbath is Christ!! Thanks my sister for reminding us to prioritize our time.

Hey!!! Yep, it's me, late as usual. Being late didn't meant that I didn't think about you on your birthday or whisper Happy Birthday to the Heavens. I'm sitting here on what is my Granddad's birthday or what would have been his 93rd had he lived. Heaven gained some pretty good angels during my life time. I am still at a lost for words just thinking about what life would be like if you were still here. Wow!!!, 42 huh? Time has flown and the years that you've been gone have come and gone like a thief in the night, slips in and out. Life is something special and oh how I wish that yours was longer, but your purpose was fulfilled in the short time that you were here. Tragedies are happening with every turn of your head, but I just continue to pray and hold on to my faith in God, because I know that HE makes no mistakes. We are human beings that just wish that we could turn back the hands of time, if only for a day. Miss and love you much!!!

Denise Denise Denise: My little twin...St. Augustine's Basketball Team, Alpha Kappa Alpha, smiles and manners on always, short haircuts and then there is The Raleigh Police Department. You had courage and I was so proud of you. Surprised and shock when I found out you made in the Police Academy, I softly smiled to God…look after her please I said. You were the second female out of St. Augustine’s College to step forward we haven’t had one since you baby.
If you are listening like you had the habit of doing..St. Augustine College is now St. Augustine’s University, wow huh? Denise we even have a football team and one person actually made the NFL. I cannot think of you because I will weep and lose my ability to speak but I think that you are aware of that as well. Denise, you looked great in that uniform girl…sharp as a tack and dress to the nine. You always like dressing sharp anyway.
I miss seeing you and miss hearing about you too something I got use to from other officers…you know keeping up with the rookies and all. It is the year 2012 and guess what we have a Black Female Chief now, Cassie remember her? I do not go down the police department much anymore because some became confused and some even spooked “Lisa White-Burnett or Denise Holden” who is who?
Denise, we were known as the basketball girls from St. Augustine’s College. They would say “you know the two tall, friendly light-skinned skinny girls that smile all the time, the sisters from St. Augustine’s College, oh those two, what a mouthful. Raleigh Citizens thought you were my little sister and thought that it was so sweet that we carried on in the same profession that was too funny.
Hey, we loved our short haircuts right…that style fit best under our police hats right. Denise, recall that policy the one where we were never to have off our heads when out of the police cruiser, that hat policy we broke often, smile. They have polyester uniforms now and they are ugly.
Well I am going to let cha go now…. Your girl Lisa White, Lis to you.

my beloved sister, it is fall 2012 and I have not forgotten you. Again, your birth touch your parents but your death touch the world. As each season brings about its own rotation , each year brings us to a new reflection. In case your wondering if you ever finished what you can on earth for, let me remind you that you did.All who reflect on you have been taught by you, while your path is ended your way is broad. May God Strengthen us for our unknown future. Thanks sister, Peace be with you.
