Your heroism and service is honored today, the nineteenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I can see by the reflections left that you are loved and missed by many. Your family is in my heart's embrace.

Tom, to this day I still think of you and unfortunately I cannot forget the worst day of my life. I can still remember the day I received the call. The worst part was having to tell Mom and Dad. Today, they are doing just fine, as is the rest of the family. I am so happy I was able to visit you for years before and after you left us. I still remember the great places you took us and the love you had for us, but most of all the wonderful love you had for your own family. We are so proud of you and for the many contributions you made in your lifetime. Miss you!

Uncle Tom, I still remember the terrible evening my mother received the news her brother was killed in the line of duty. It was a scream-cry that I will never forget. I was only 18 then and only had distant memories of you, mostly from pictures. I will always regret not knowing you the way I would have liked. At your funeral, there was such an outpouring of support and love. I could tell you were well loved, admired and respected in the family, friends and community you called home. I was so proud of you - and still am.

Tommy my brother had a likeable personality. Even the neighborhood bully respected my brother. Tommy never back down to a good fight. As a young boy he learned to protect himself from danger and always had luck in finding jobs. I admired him for his bravery in Viet Nam as a Marine and a police officer. My only regret is that he died before any of us could say good bye. God is good, my brother is in a better place.

18 years ago on this date you gave your life, the ultimate sacrafice, just "doing your job" and trying to rid the streets of drugs.

You will always be my hero and guardian angel and we will never forget you...ever. I promise you I will always love your daughter and take care of her the way you would want me too. Until next time we all love you and miss you!

I was working in the FPD traffic bureau that terrible day you were killed. It's been almost 20 years now and there are few days that go by that I don't think about you in some way. "When someone kills a Police Officer, they kill a piece of America". God bless you Tommy... your memory will live on forever in all of us that knew you.

Rest in peace brother!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I knew Tommy here in Houston, Texas I first met Tommy while attendung Marshall Junior High and he was a basketball player an outstanding player with a great jump shot. He the went on to Jeff Davis High and also played basketball. He had the heart of a lion. He then joined the Marines and I remember when he left the Marines and returned home he drove a yellow corvette. The someone told he became a police officer in CA. Today I remembered him and found this site and wanted to write a remeberance. I hope his family is well.

Mr. De La Rosa,

Well I can't beleive it has been 17 years since your life was suddenly cut short in a cowardly act. I can tell you you will never be forgotten by your family and friends...never.

We stopped by and visited you today so I could drop some flowers for you...I know the flowers are bright yellow but my thinking behind that was today is the first day of summer so why not get colors related to that time of year? I hope you like them and I hope you continue to watch down on us and keep us safe like you have done so many times before. We love you and miss you!

P.S. Your daughter Nicole is still just as beautiful and intelligent today as she has always been. You would be beyond proud to see how well she has done for herself and her family. She is the reason why I am the person I am today and the reason I have made it through some of the most difficult times of my life.

Love your family

Fullerton Police Department(FPD) and LAPD share many family members. The present Chief was a LAPD Captain who inspired me to climb the Academy rope each morning before work. Some of my former LAPD recruits now protect me in OC as FPD cops.

I still wonder how I would have responded not knowing who the "players" were, since everybody was in plainclothes. I drove home from the LAPD Academy everyday, passing near the location where Officer De La Rosa was shot.

Amongst law enforecement agencies, He was known as a UC who could pass for almost any Spanish-speaking ethnicity because of his ability to change his dialect to fit the situation.

It is hard to believe that it has been seventeen years.

May You Rest-In-Peace.

Officer De La Rosa, I never had the oppurtunity to thank you for the times you helped me in the times of need. Believe me when I say that I've told many people how good of a Cop you were. When I drive through the City of Fullerton I know the citizens were proud to have you as a Police Officer. Again thank you R.G

Currently a student at UCIrvine doing the Criminology, Law and Society program and require reading is the Street Narcotic Enforcement by Hoseph M. Klein and E. W. "Ted" Oglesby. The book is dedicated to you and so I thought I would learn a little about a officer he gave up his life dealing with this stuff.

Thanks for making the streets a safer place,

Mr. De La Rosa,

Well I had to stop by and thank you again for guiding me through another OIS. I have to admit I was scared that night (April 9th, 2006) but I knew you were there standing next to me keeping me calm and in control. I did not want to do it but I had no choice. I have to take care of Nicole just like I promised you!

Jessiana and I (she is almost 18 months now and is just like her mom by the way!) stop by to see you as much as we can and everytime we leave she tells you bye, but I'm sure you already know that! On the weekends we all try to go by to at least say hi and tell you we love you.

Please know that there isn't a day that goes by that we are not thinking of you and missing you. You will always be our hero and we will never forget!

We love and Miss you,

Your family
