Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Michael Lynn Crowe

I met Mike at the ATF Advanced Undercover training at the Federal training center in Georgia in 1994. I last spoke to Mike about two weeks before his EOW. During that two week training course we quickly became friends. We shared the the same first and middle names. I learned of his death in a newspaper article while sitting at an off duty job in Miami. It was the worst gut punch ever. His family lost a great man. On this May 15th, during National Police Week, I remember my Brother and once again give thanks for his service. Until we meet again...

Sereant Crowe,

I did not know you in life, but I met your daughter a few years after your EOW. We had something in common that we did not realize until months after meeting. My father was also a police officer who's EOW came a few months after yours in 1995. It was not a bond that either of us would have wished on anyone, but here we were. Though we have both struggled through the years with the losses that were thrust upon us, we both turned into good people that our father's would be proud of. (Her for sure...me I hope.)

Thank you for your service sir.

I think of you often Sgt. Crowe, but especially on July 4th. My heart sank when I got the call at 1:00am. Although I was in a remote area, we shared the same district office and had several good talks. I was really hoping to transfer to Yuma and work under you. I was a little upset when you went to the border alliance, my hope of working under you was dashed. I lost a friend 23 years ago, but I know to many more, you were much more. I wish I would have told you in person the inspiration you were to me. Rest well in His presence and peace my good friend.

It's been 20 years. How time flies. Doesn't seem that long ago that I had dropped down to Yuma for your service. Still so hard to believe. I remember talking on the phone not too long before and you were so up - loving your work. Glad to see you and Lt. Elkins are being memorialized with streets named after you.
You deserve it and won't be forgotten.

Tonight while looking at another DPS Officer's page, I decided to look at Mike's page as it had been awhile since I had been here. I was humbled, to say the least, to see how many reflections were here. It has been 18 years since he was taken from us and to see that there are so many who take the time to remember him brought tears to my eyes, Mike will always be present in my life and I am honored that each of you has taken the time out of your busy lives to remember him also. May God Bless each and every one of you.

The 4th of July has never been the same for me, since the deaths of Sgt. Crowe and Lt. Elkins. Elkins had recruited me for a second tour in the SBA task force. Mad dog Chapman (SA\NIS) and I were outside the SBA building with our families watching the fireworks, while the suspect was inside the ripping things apart. My kids were acting up and I told Agent Chapman we were leaving...so we all left. I beat myself up for yrs for leaving that night...me and Chapman were both armed and we could have helped Crowe for sure. Both were the best of the best. The suspect should be died.

To fully honor our heroes of the present, we must
recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 17th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.
