To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 17th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

This is the 13th anniversary of your ascent into St. Michaels
police patrol in heaven. How you died does not measure your greatness, but how you lived sure does. Your legacy is your son who followed your footsteps, your co-workers who remember
you and your great sense of humor. Your family who holds your
memory in their hearts. You are and will always be remembered.

Rest in peace, Sir! You will never be forgotten.
Police Officer
June 6, 2008
"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I was a friend of Paul in 1994 when I was a teller at a bank that he worked as a security officer for the evening hours.
Paul was a great friend during that time in my life and was even a father figure to me. I had the privilege of going on a few ride alongs with him and grabbing a bite to eat now and again. He had such a great sense of humor and would make me laugh often. We also had some serious and deep talks too in regards to spiritual matters. At the time we had opposing views. Now it's over a decade later and my paridigm has shifted quite a bit. Paul would be happy to hear that I have come over to his way of thinking.
I was only a friend to Paul for one year, but here I am now over a decade later still impacted by his friendship. I am very glad and honered to have know such a fine officer and human being.

To Officer Paul Moen, his loved ones, and his fellow officers:
On this the eleventh anniversary day of your tragic death, please know that you are remembered and honored today.
Reading the reflections left for you lets me know how well-loved and well-respected you are, and how dearly you are missed.
I share the agony of your loved ones as I lost my beloved youngest son when he was murdered during a foot pursuit of two robbers on April 23, 2005. I am awed by your courage and dedication, and your many years of serving and protecting.
Paul, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.
This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.
Rest in Peace, Officer Moen. Your memory is honored and revered today and everyday.
This respect is sent with the utmpost respect for the service Paul gave to his country and to his community as a police officer, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 1, 1995.

Rest in peace, Paul. You were a terrific person. I will always remember your bringing me fingerprint cards to classify back when you worked in the Mpls Booking Unit and I worked at Hennepin Co Jail. When I moved over to the (I thought!) greener pastures of Mpls, I remember your being so kind as to let me ride along with you for a few dogwatch shifts. You taught a budding dispatcher a lot about the difficult job that police officers do and how important the interaction between officers and dispatchers is.
I send this in August, 2002 and hope that you and Officer Melissa Schmidt who recently joined you are maybe having a beer or playing a hand of cards. You're both sorely missed!
