Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Policeman Jerry Wilson Maddox

Rather then focus on the disgusting system that ultimately allows a killer who ruthlessly slays a police officer to go free, I’ll focus on thanking Officer Maddox for his service and sacrifice and letting him know he’ll never be forgotten by his LE brethren.

I was 6 weeks old when Jerry was killed, but I feel like I know him. Our family talked about him on a daily basis and never let his memory fade. His picture from the academy was always in view. I want to thank everyone for the comments on this page and for not forgetting the sacrifice he made. It is truly humbiling.

I wasn researching deaths of officers where the perps were juveniles in gathering information to oppose legislation that allows JLWOP inmates to petition for recall and resentencing, and found the account of your tragic murder.
How horrible it must have been for your family to lose you, then have to endure those roller coaster legal proceedings. I am sorry you and your family did not get the full measure of justice you deserved. Your memory is honored and revered 41 years after your death.

The On - Duty Detective that night, was none other than the now Famous Fellow Devil Dawg - Joseph Wambaugh. The Rookie that night has gone on to retire from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department.

We keep in touch quite often. As He shall NEVER forget that Night, the Memory of Policeman Maddox shal NEVER be forgotten.
