Reflections for Agent Louis A. Pompei

To Louis and those who love him,
I was lucky to have met Louie as part of Class 241. I remember him always making us laugh. I also remember knowing he had a good heart, like all good cops have.
I don't believe I ever saw Louie after the academy, but I knew his (I believe it was his brother-in-law? aka Senior John Wargo, who I worked under at the Hall of Justice Jail). I would occasionally ask Senior Wargo how Louie was doing.
I left the "Hall" for patrol and unfortunately did not hear about Louie again until that fateful day.
This is for his Family and Loved ones. Just a reminder that he will will never be forgotten for the good man that he was.
God Bless

I pass by your freeway sign all the time and have always wondered about you. I finally looked you up to see your face and hear the story. My son was also killed in the line of duty in burbank in 2003. I hope you and Matt have made friends up in that wonderful place called heaven.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Louie,
What can I say brother, you were the best friend anyone could have had. I look back on our times together at College and after we graduated and thank God for providing me with your friendship. From the first time we met I knew you were a special person, I knew I had a friend for life. My mother said that you were an Angel from God and you were sent here to bridge people together and create happiness for all of those you touched. There are countless people who have your memories deep in their hearts, I am so thankfull for those memories. Unfortunately you were taken just before you got to meet my son Matthew who I promised to raise to be so kind hearted as you were. I often watch our videos that Dean, and I made of my visits to you in California and laugh and cry. There was never a dull moment when we were together. I gained so much from you and lost so much when you left this earth. You were my true campanion! One thing you said to me that I will never forget to the day I leave this earth. You said "Chris, God will never give you a challenge that you can't overcome". That statement will live with me forever, I never knew that the challenge God presented me was going to be your death and man its been hard. Writing this was hard, I miss you dearly and know that someday I will be reunited with the Angel known to me as my friend Louie Pompei, God Bless you brother please look after my children Matthew and Lauren.
Love Chris Fluck.

Louie,

I can not believe it has been over 11 years no since you laid down your life for one of God’s children. On that fatal day when I received the news of your shooting, I was a reserve police officer with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Louie, you gave me that thirst to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. That same week I went to a call where a 12 year old boy had shot himself. The boy had the same first and middle name of my son. I worked in our family owned restaurant in the area where I am a reserve police officer. I came to work and our waitress asked me if I knew anything about the officer killed in Glendora. I could not think of who it might be. I heard on the news later that day, the Glendora Police Officer that was shot was, Louis Pompei my friend and my brother in Christ. I lost it, I had enough of this job called Law enforcement and I wanted to quit. Louie, you and God came to mind and what God had done to get me to this stage in my life. I would remember the times we rode together, me as a Glendora Auxiliary Police Officer. We would talk about body building or the Lord. You would give a citizen a citation and the citizen would thank you and tells you “have a nice day”. It has been over 11 years now and I have been with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for 12 years, 5 as a reserve deputy and over 7 years full time. I just wanted to say thank you, Louie. You and the Lord Jesus Christ have made me the Law Enforcement Officer I am today.

Louie,
As hard as it is to believe that 11 years have passed since your life was taken from us, you are still remembered everyday. There is a section of the 210 freeway named for you in your honor. I pause and reflect on the man you were everytime I pass and I know that others must do so to, as someone makes sure that there are American flags placed on the sign baring your name. You are not forgotten!!

Louie,
I was just thinking of you today. You always brought a smile to my face whenever you were around. I always laugh when I think about the time we served the search warrant in Azusa and you brought in Covina's K9 to do the search. The K9 handler thought his dog had run away and was frantically searching the block. We got a lot of laughs over that. I miss you.

Hey Louie,
Next week we will pause to reflect and honor you on the 10th anniversay of your death. It seems like yesterday but know that your legacy within the department will not be forgotten. You will always be among us. Representatives are being "dispatched" to your home town to participate in their memorial for you, and we will gather at your park to share your memory and sacrafice. God Bless and may you always rest in peace. Remember "The dance."

Louis, I can't believe it's been 10 years. I still think about the Warrant we did when my K9 got attaked by the cat. We had a few good laughs over that one. And I still use the work out you showed me all those years ago. I think of you every time I use the Interchange named in your honor. I was recently in your City on follow up when I made a wrong turn and ended up in the park bearing your name. I know your're watching all of us from up there. Take care of K9-Sjerka till I arrive...God Bless Brother.

I believe it is important to know the story of Louie Pompei who gave his life trying to apprehend 2 robbery suspects. As a resident of a neighboring city, I just heard about his story 9 years later as I am 17 yrs old. Thank you Louie for all of your hard work you gave to Glendora.RIP...

What a great smile! It lights up his face! This is so tragic. Boy, I sure
am looking forward to that day when Jesus comes to restore peace on
earth. He is the Prince of Peace. His gospel is Peace. Oh, happy day
when He comes for His own. I can't wait!
Until then, I guess this senseless violence will continue. Why anyone
would want to wear a cop's uniform is beyond me. Life is scarey enough
without being a human target! Thank you officer Pompei for your
sacrifice. Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice, too. I long for your return.
Until then, may the love of Christ surround you and comfort you in your
mourning of this dear fellow officer and loved one. God bless!

"Louie" was the most wonderful Human being I have ever met.
He changed my life and my family's life through his living and through his death. Louie now resides in my heart forever, and I'm forever grateful and honored to have known him...Thanks Louie.

Always,
Tracey

Louie Pompei's Fiance

Louie was a very enthusastic and friendly person. He would greet you with a firm handshake and a smile. In the 7 years he was with our agency he distinguished himself as an excellent officer. The morning I was notifed at home that Louie had been fatally injured in a robbery was like a nightmare. In the six years since he was killed his memory lives on in all of us. He will never be forgotten. The memorial built in front of our station bears his name, the only officer in our dept's history to die in the line of duty. I pray that no other brother officers name will have to be added to it.
As it is written in JOHN 15:13-14, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command." May God Bless your soul and your memory never be forgotten in our community.
