Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Agent Louis A. Pompei

I was just a 19 year old kid when I met Louie at the LA Fitness in Diamond Bar. He was a bodybuilder and a cop and represented everything I wanted to be in life. He mentored me in the gym and gave me advice about a careers in law enforcement. I ultimately went to the police academy because of him. I still weight train because of him. RIP bother…you were taken way too soon!

Went to MU with Louie, he was my RA and I also played football. I was not some one who knew him very well as I only knew him for a few short months, we were acquaintances. Yet here I’am 40 years afterwards, thinking of Louie and remembering him like yesterday? He was special, people naturally gravitated to him. All 5 foot 8 of him would have 100 guys on he team listening and believing every word he said. Louie was simply a natural born leader and truly one of a kind. I visited his and his parents gravesite his week, RIP Louie, forever in my heart ❤️

My Reflection is I will never forget the day when I was handed a calendar and asked what’s this? My father was born in 1926 March 19th he came home and placed it in front of me?He walked away didn’t say a word I read each page! Police Officers who died in and off duty. I came to Louie’s page and stared at his picture wondering? My father lived in California for some years also several States this was in 1995 2 weekends ago something? Made me look up Louie Anthony Pompei it happened to be the 20th year he passed away. I read about the Bull Run they were having a motorcycle run from Virginia to Glendale California! I often looked up Louie I never get goosebumps from looking at a pitcher? Yes Louie is my hero! Yes I played football and lifted weights at age 11 years old. So did Louie from what I understand was an excellent athlete and loyal friend to the friends who were there for him. I was upset and my first reaction was who were these two individuals who decided to pull out weapons on a cashier and pistol wiped a stock boy! At first I read Louie shield with his body a little kid and prevented him from getting hit from any bullets? Regardless Louie had reacted by instincts and immediately began to stop these two under 18 suspects who one apparently was shot ? I read different stories! Regardless Louie is a hero and my dad never said anything he was a very quiet man and knowledgeable and wise, I immediately wanted to know who did this! Ones eligible for parole? After my yes I’ll call him a brother Louie is no longer with us in spirit and memories and memorially’s My name is Joseph L Pompei I am still upset about this incident and have a issue letting it go! I’d love soon to visit Glendale California and see Louies Memorial and pay tribute to him and my respects in person! Joseph L Pompei Cranston Rhode Island my current cellphone number is (917) 962-3993 ! I’d like to Thank Louie’s best friend and friends and brothers and sisters of the Glendale Police Department and I am sorry for any Police officer that died upholding the oath they took to protect and serve. ❤️ Thank you
21 I love that particular number!
I believe others do as well ! Sincerely

27 years ago today you did not swerve from your oath and duty to serve. You gave your life in defense of the peaceful from the violent. Today, as in every year since your death, the GPD, LASD-San Dimas and community pauses at your Via Verde memorial parklet to honor your memory and sacrifice. You were a great cop and friend.

27 years have passed since you stood up to evil to defend the peaceful from violence. GPD, LASD-San Dimas and the community gathered at your memorial parklet in Via Verde this morning, as we do every year at this time, to honor your memory and sacrifice. I happened to get a message from Shelia G. just two months ago and during our brief messaging she shared how much she appreciated, as an adult now more than then, the help and mentoring she received from you. I was part of the lucky few who got to work with you and call you friend. God Bless.

Dear Officer Pompei,
I first heard of you when I was sitting in my academy class for LASD. I went home that day and did some research on you. What I found was truly amazing. Nothing but great things can be found about your life and character. You were a hard worker and truly gave it your all everyday when you went to work. Friends and family mention how you had great personality on and off duty. For example, they mentioned how you treated everybody you met with respect, even those who were guilty of a crime. You had such a great impact on the community you worked for. People that you arrested, would send you letters, and thanked you for being so respectful and helping them straighten out their lives so they can be better people.
You truly lived up to the code of law enforcement. You were sworn to protect and serve the people in Glendora, while on duty or off duty. On the day of your death, while you were off duty, you stepped in and helped the citizens of Glendora when they were being assaulted by two individuals. Knowing the risks of identifying yourself as a peace officer, you still decided to help those in need even though it meant losing your life. Sir, all I want to say is that your courage and sacrifice will not be forgotten. Thank you for everything you did, you truly had dedication to the job and was willing to sacrifice your life for others. Your story has truly touched and motivated me. Even though I am currently a recruit, I aim to be just like you. I want to become a Deputy and help those in need and hopefully make a difference in peoples lives just like you did. I will live up to the code of Law Enforcement and become a better Deputy on and off duty every day. I believe every recruit should read you story and learn how a peace officer should be on or off duty and try every day to be the best they can be. Again thank you for everything you did Officer Pompei.

Louie
I thought of you today, but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too.
I think of you in silence, I often speak your name.
All I have are memories and a picture in a frame.
Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part.
God has you in his arms. I have you in my heart
