Reflections for Patrolman Alfred Loreto

December 7, 2023 - I just read a brief history of Loreto Park to find out how it got its name and I found the sad story of Patrolman Loreto. This was a brave man.

I sent my reflections of my Uncle, Alfred Loreto, and do not see it up on the page.

My Uncle Fred lived upstairs in my father Arthur Loreto's house. He was a dear man. I was 17 that July when he was shot in front of our house. Out with some friends, we heard about it on a car radio and raced home. Such a horror for all of the family. I think of him often.

I was the first child born after my uncle's passing and I was named after him. It is a great honor to carry his name and memory forward. His memory and his sacrifice for his neighbor will never be forgotten.

Patrolman Alfred Loreto was my uncle. He gave his life protecting a neighbor. There is no greater love than to give your life for another. His death was a tragic loss for our family. May he rest in peace. He is gone but will never be forgotten.

May his soul rest peacefully in Heaven. He gave his life in an attempt to bring two felony perpetrators to justice. God bless his family with his peace, love and grace.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 63rd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

I said a little prayer today for Patrolman Loreto and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

Patrolman Alfred Loreto was a neighbor of my grandparents. My father said that Ptl. Loreto was a great father and a gentleman. My father was a witness to his murder when he was 10 years old. May he rest in peace.
