Reflections for Patrolman Jameson Longworth
I met Big Jim when I was 2 years old and spent quite a bit of time with him, he was like a father to me. When Big Jim got shot it was horrible for everyone, but Big Jim never let it get him down, he never complained, not even once! Big Jim taught me how to have respect for other people as well as myself. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be who I am now. God bless you Big Jim, I miss you

My Great Uncle Jameson Longworth was a fine Officer and was killed in the line of duty even though he survived paralyzing injuries for 14 years. He fought to regain function for those 14 years but GOD took him home. The Greeley and Weld County Colorado Law Enforcement community included him on the Fallen Officers Memorial at Bittersweet Park in Greeley. I was honored to attend this memorial service for Jim and the other officers. THANK YOU WELD COUNTY and Greeley PD for your duty and honor for these officers. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 34th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Jameson Longworth was one of my uncles and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. The city of Greeley and their Department never forgot Jim during his time as a paraplegic and our family has always been grateful for their support. I remember my uncle fondly and well.

Patrolman Longworth - 14 years of being paralyzed after being shot. I hope your department supported both you and your family during that time. I stood in the State Assembly chamber when your name was one of almost 250 others read off during a motion regarding next month's Police Memorial Week. Next month we shall wear our mourning bands in tribute to you all. You are not forgotten. Thank you for your service to the people of Greeley and the state of Colorado. May God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

To the loved ones, friends, and co-workers of Patrolman Longworth, I offer my heartfelt condolences on this sad anniversary.
Know that your officer is in a safe place, free from pain, and I pray that the memories you have of him in happier times has helped to ease the sorrow of his loss.
