Almost 48 years since that morning I was dropping off my son Tony to be baby set by Carol when I was shocked to learn Chuck had been killed just a few hours earlier,

Approximately, 1 1/2 years later I began my own CHP career and hope that my service honored the memory of Chuck Lily.

God Bless you & your family

I just want to thank those who have posted to this site. Especially those who didn't know him yet took the time to write a reflection. He will have a memorial ceremony to honor him this month which means so much to our family. Thank you to all who made this possible. I wish I could have known him as an adult. To me he was Daddy.

Charles (Dick) Lilly was a wonderful man. I remember him as being a rather quiet man, unassuming, loving, kind, and taking his duties to heart. It was a special thrill to ride in his squad car with my dear friend who became my cousin. You see, His wife's family grew up with my dad's family, and after his untimely death, my dad married his widow, Carol. She became my loving stepmother and their darling kids, Beth, Susie, and Dave, my precious sisters and brother. I loved Officer Lilly and I'm very thankful to him for his excellent service and his legacy to me and my family.

Officer Lilly: Just wanted to remember you for your sacrifice for all of us. It has been 45 years since you were taken, but I'm sure to your family and friends it has just been a heartbeat in time.

Please know the Blue and Gold goes on and does a fine job. Keep a protective eye on all my CHP, especially my beloved San Bernardino Squad.

Thank you for your service and your heroism. We are indebted to you.

With love,
