Thinking of you this Christmas as I do every day, you were always there for me not just my big brother also my protector. Love you and miss you so much. I know your singing with the angels now.
Capt. Charlie thank you for your condolences, we also wondered why they took the call when they were transporting a prisoner, I believe they wanted to back up their fellow officers.

Capt Charlie usmm,

Thank you for posting your reflection. Robert Lee was my Uncle Bobby and I miss him greatly as does the rest of the family. I never knew he was transporting somebody so it seems I find out something new all of the time. Thank you again and God Bless.

Remembering you today on your birthday, not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Love you always and miss you big brother. Capt. Charlie thank you for your reflection and for remembering Bobby. We wondered why they took the call until Officer Shirley told us exactly what happened that night and we are thankful to him for all that he did and know it wasn't easy for him remembering. We will always remember him and may he rest in peace along with Bobby and their fellow brothers.

I wittnessed the fall of Officer Lee. I was being transported from Pearland to Houston by Officers Lee and Shirley on a traffic warrant. I'm getting old now, but I can clearly recall the tragedy of that dark night. I wittnessed the robber aim a 45 cal auto pistal and fire killing
Officer Lee. It's my opinion he died needlessly due to the fact that he was already under assignment transporting a minor. He and his partner didn't have to take the robbery call being the other officers were allready staked out on location. It is a dark day for us all when an Officer falls and i want to extend my sincere condolances to the family of Officer Lee for their great loss.

I witnessed the fall of officer Lee. I was 16 years old at the time. I was being transported from Pearland to Houston by officers Lee and Shirley on a traffic warrant. In my opinion he died needlessly due to the fact that , while transporting a minor, he took a robbery call while on another assignment. I clearly witnessed the robber when he aimed and shot officer Lee with a 45 cal automatic. I am getting to be an old man now and I still reflect back in sad memory of that dark day. my sincere condolances to his family. it is always a great loss to us all when an officer falls. It was a very dark day.

We sat alphabetically in the Academy, Lang, Lawrence, Lee. Bob and I were paired up a number of times. He was my friend. He loved law enforcement - it was his dream come true.

This was a day you always thought was special, you believed in God, Country & Family. Found a card you had sent me from my fighting Marine. I found a poem someone wrote that says what I have never been able to express,

A million times I've missed you
A million times I've cried
In life I loved you dearly
In death I love you still
In my heart you hold a place
No one could ever fill

You will always be my hero.

Bobby was my uncle and a really great guy. He was just 35 years old when he was taken from us and our lives were forever changed. He served in the army, worked offshore, was a Golden Gloves boxer, a proud American, a prankster, and a really cool uncle. We have never forgotten and still miss him every day since he was taken from us on that horrible January day in 1971. We love you Uncle Bobby!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
