Family, Friends & Fellow Officers Remember...

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 17th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your daughter for sharing her devotion to you through her reflection. Your mom is in my prayers today for surely losing a beloved child is one of life's greatest sorrow, and I know she has suffered greatly with the death of your father.

Today was my first time visiting this website, and as I was reading these past reflections, it brought tears to my eyes. I am so proud to of had a father that so many people look up to and call him a hero, just as I do. And it greatly warms my heart to see even recent reflections in the last few years,....shows me that even after almost 17 years, he's not forgotten by those outside our family.

My grandmother and I have taken it upon ourselves to be each others rock and be strong for each other in times of weakness, more so since she lost her husband 6 years ago. I pray for her and for me to give us strength.

Thank you everyone, for your kind words, your prayers and for keeping us in your thoughts and hearts, and mostly, thank you for never forgetting.

Please continue to share thoughts and memories. Being so young at the time, my memories are those as a childs are, and I would love nothing more than to hear your memories and stories of him and learn more about the father I barely knew.

I ask that you please keep my grandmother in your prayers, after losing her young son, then taking in and raising his 8 year old daughter, and then losing her husband after 60 years of marriage,.. her energy is getting dimmer, and its getting harder and harder to keep her in good spirits.

Your death was shocking and senseless. I remember how much fun you were when you dated then married my older sister. Thanks for my first and only ride on a motorcycle. We lost you when you and she divorced then lost you again when you acted so bravely that awful day. You will always be remembered and in my prayers. May you have found peace in heaven. The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Before Danny Doffyn joined the police force, he and I worked together at the phone company for about 5 years. He lived near my house in old Logan Square. We hung out together. We had a common interest, and that was boxing. We saw many great matches together. I remember his young daughter. He had great athletic ability. I couldn't believe he became a police rookie at age 40. He is missed. Best wishes to his parents and daughter.

On this the ninth anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.

I am sickened for what apparently passes for justice in Illinois. How very sad this family has to undergo another trial. I am not familar with the background of Gov. Ryan, but somehow I suspect he has not had a family member brutally murdered.

Daniel, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Officer Doffyn.

Although you were only here in the district (and on earth) for a short time, you have left a lasting impression. You heard the call, and you went to serve and protect. That's what we do, plain and simple. I've kept a recording of the 911 transmissions that took place during your last call, and I play it once and a while to put my thoughts about our job in perspective. Nothing has had a greater impact on my life as an officer than that little cassette tape.

I live 3 blocks from where Officers Doffyn's funeral was held. I remember vividly the sight of squad cars from hundreds of agencies lining the streets and of Officer Doffyn's young daughter standing by the CPD Honor Guard. I think about that day often and I hope she is doing well.
