Reflections for Patrol Officer Daniel J. Lane

Officer Lane, it has been 111 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your 3 years of law enforcement service.

I wish you had lived so I could have met you. If I have even 1/10 of your genes in me; I know I'm living a good and honorable life. I remember the many times my father would tell us about you and you were surely never forgotten. You would be happy to know that you had many descendants who all became lawyers because of you and one great great nephew was named after you. (Daniel E. Lane). Even though I did not meet you in this life; I love you with all of my heart, I think of you often, I visit the memorial in Washington D.C. and I look forward to seeing you in the next life because I have felt you watching over me. You will never be forgotten.

What can be said about Officer Lane? He was a gentleman and a scholar with the heart of a giant and the soul of a poet.

He cared for all, some might even say too much so. I hope CL&P learned from their mistake to never ignore a service call when safety is involved no matter how big or small.

Thank you Officer Lane, you are gone but never forgotten.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 100th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
