Reflections for Officer Shawn Leinen
Just thinking about you again today. Hard to believe that 10 years have gone by already. I think of all that you've missed out on here, and all that your family, friends and entire community have missed out on because you were taken by a senseless act of violence. The space that you left behind cannot be filled and you will never be forgotten.

I never knew Shawn, but came across his memorial tonight while visiting the ODMP. The 10 year anniversary of his death is coming up in just a day or two. There's a 9 year old child out there that never got to know his/her dad. I hope and pray that as the years have gone by, his surviving family has found peace and their memories of Shawn brings them happiness and smiles. There is no reason why these tragedies should ever occur. Senseless acts by cowards and criminals. May God bless all of the men and women serving in law enforcement and may each and every one of them be safe. Rest in peace, Shawn. I never met you, but I will never forget you or the sacrifice you made. Thank you.

I have so many memories of Shawn. We went to elementary, junior high and high school together. My constant impression of Shawn is what a sweet guy he was! He always had a smile on his face! I also remember he had a "Peter Brady-like" squeaky voice when he was a young teenager! It makes me smile to think of it! I know he is looking down on his son and guiding him with the purest of love. I will never forget your smile, Shawn...and I know I speak on behalf of our high school graduating class, that you ARE missed!

I too remember all the practical jokes and that mischeivious grin. Shawn was one of the best people I ever knew. The world lost one of its best people. He always knew how to make you smile, no matter what the situation.
I still miss you, Shawn. And I think about you often.

Shawn,
When you sacrificed your life for us, I remember going to the funeral and learning what an outstanding person you were. Since then, I have joined the force and I think about you all of the time, you will never be forgotten. I keep your card in my house as an inspiration of what a true hero is.
God bless you brother.

I hope that officer Leinen's child will learn about what a wonderful man he was. It must still be very difficult dealing with his loss. Susan, you and your child will be in my prayers always. Please be strong and keep his memory alive. God bless!
