Reflections for Sheriff Selah Graham Lamb

Selah Graham Lamb was the uncle of my mother, Ellsbeth Joyce Lamb.
Mom spoke of him with love and respect.

Selah Graham Lamb was my Great Uncle, son of Timothy Graham Lamb, of San Ardo, southern Monterey County, CA. When the family left their 2000 acre spread in San Ardo, Sheriff Lamb first was a foreman for Miller Lux Cattle Company, and then went on over to Winnemucca, Humboldt County, NV, and started his career in law enforcement after a couple years of ranching.

Rest in peace and know that no passage of time can ever erase your service and sacrifice.

Sheriff Lamb served over 20 years as the Humboldt County Sheriff. He was a very popular sheriff, having over 10,000 square miles to police. When he was felled by the suspect, he was shot four times with a rifle but survived the trip from Golconda to Winnemucca (the county seat). Soon after arriving in Winnemucca Sheriff Lamb succumbed to his wounds. His funeral was one of the largest the state had ever seen, up to that time. Sheriff Lamb was known as an excellent, tough but fair lawman who arrested many a desperado in his day. Former Humboldt U/S K. Kull wrote a book about Sheriff Lamb's colorful exploits. To this day Sheriff Lamb is highly revered and still well known in Humboldt County and in the state of Nevada.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 80th anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Sheriff Lamb was my mother's uncle. Mom spoke of him often when I was growing up. According to Mom he was shot in the back. He was greatly missed.
