While cleaning out my grandparent house I came across a picture and article about Joe Lacy. The story my Aunt told me was that my dad found the gun that was used, and flew to SF to testify.
I was just curious as to what happened and what part my dad played in the trial.

My father Ignatius Lynch was friends with Joe and Joe lived with my parents in their home in San Francisco at the time of his demise. I offer what my father told me as I think it helps to historically put this senseless death in 1957 in a narrative which reflects the struggle policeman have protecting and serving in these days 2016 of so much scrutiny of police in general. Story goes he walked into the bar in the Tenderloin well known and frequented by many policemen and local SF folks. He was at bar and someone said as the robbers entered " Don't go for your gun Joe!" which alerted them to his status and they shot him. My father was bitter that they did not keep their mouths shut and it would have turned out differently.

Sgt Joe Lacey was my Uncle. He was well loved by sibilings: Jim, Anna Mae, Walt (my father), Owen, and Jack. They are all united now and having a cheer!
There were many great stories about my Uncle Joe. It was my loss to not know him in person.
He loved THE City, children, his family, and life!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 53rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

How very tragic that your family endured two line of duty deaths. I hope to meet your some of your family at a NORCAL COPS function.
