Reflections for Police Officer John Carroll Koppin
Dear Officer Koppin, My name is Dorian La Rosa, Son of Officer Francesca La Rosa #118. As a young kid living in South Florida, I very vividly remember mom having you picture beautifully framed with your K-9 partner along the sea wall on a beautiful sunny day. I remember asking her about your photo. She spoke highly of you and explained of how you passed. That was a very important moment as a kid to understand, comprehend and feel an awful sense of despair. It made me realize how dangerous the profession of a dedicated, brave Law Enforcement officer actually was. It made me feel a sense of security when mom got home after her long drive. I’m so sorry you didn’t get that chance. I’m think Francesca would still remember you and that very comforting photo. I always loved going in her take home unit and playing with the light and air horn, I loved the uniform and how mom would teach me gun safety and how to aim. I always wanted to be a detective, to solve violent crimes and bring justice and peace to those affected. I aspired to be an officer like you and mom. May God always look over you and protect.

Today a Charlotte CountyPolice Officer Christopher Taylor, that just turned 23 was laid to rest after being killed by a DUI. This brought back so many emotions.I still think about you and wonder what my life would be like if you were still here with us. I became a Police Officer to honor you and finish what you started as a Police Officer. I served 21 years, although I can never accomplish the greatness I know you would have accomplished, I hope I made you proud. You are forever in my heart. I love you forever.

Thinking of the Koppin family. I graduated from high school the year that John passed away. I entered the DROP program this month after 25 years of chasing bumpers. Time knows no bounds. I'll enjoy my benefits ! (If you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans....Thank you F.R.S.) Continue to rest in peace Mr. John.
Jeff,
Pam, Dylan, and I hope all is well. Please feel free to contact us. I also lost my dad in August of 2009 (34 years F.H.P. Ret. Major). We have some catching up to do.
