Sweet Uncle,
On the 60th anniversary of your tragic death, we gather tomorrow; family, friends, & your Police family from Sansom Park Police Department, & will dedicate Hero’s Park in your name, in Sansom Park. We are so grateful to Chief of Police Burchfield, his staff, & all LEO’s that made this park, & memorial happen. Now your memory will always be honored & remembered. I love & miss you!

My father was the “Other officer” with him in the bar, & being it was an under cover operation they did not carry their guns inside. Det. King passed away in the arms of my dad, he took it rather hard & vowed to never be in the situation of ever being without a means of defense. As a retired LEO I have always carried my dad philosophy with me “it’s better to have it and not need it that to need it and not have it”! The advent of ankle holsters now make that possible. As with the death of Det. King as with the death of any of my brothers & sisters of blue it’s always a loss one never forgets. God speed my brother.

Sweet Uncle,
It’s amazing how fast the years pass. Even though I’m getting up in years, I will never forget what a wonderful uncle you were, and how much you meant to me, and so many others. Thank you for those memories. You’ll be in my thoughts & in my heart forever.

I still think about Sherril and feel so disappointed at the way things turned out for him. Of all the men I served with he was the one I most respected although we did not meet until September of 1959 while both of us were Enginemen 2nd Class at Sabine Point, Texas; I was back in Fort Worth, married, and at TCU when he told me he was accepted as a law enforcement officer. He was so pleased and eager. I was pleased that Sansom Park had recruited a man of such honor and integrity. It is also pleasing to see that the Sansom Park Police has taken steps to commemorate his service.

Sweet Uncle,
It's now been 51 years, but it still feels like it was yesterday. This past year has been very hard, especially with dad's passing only 4 months ago. I hope you were there, along with our other loved ones, to welcome him! I know we will all be together eventually. Until then, we keep your memory alive, and will love you forever!
I love you,
Shari

I remember him as my favorite Uncle and I was only 7 when he was killed and even at that young age it devastated me.
He loved my sister and I so much he would pick us up from school sometimes and take us to Dairy Queen or a little hamburger place by Granny's house called "The GoGo". His favorite song was "The man who shot Liberty Valance" and "north to Alaska" he actually was in the Coastguard in Alaska. He drove some awsome cars and when he died my Granny was given his 62 Chevy Impala. She drove it for years. All of my other uncles and great uncles are all together in the presence of THE LORD now and I know that they are all watching over us. I can't wait to be part of that Heavenly Family Reunion coming soon. Thnk you Jesus for allowing me to have him in my life as long as I did have him.

Though I never knew you, I have always known of you. The fond memories shared with me from those closest to you. I know you are in the Promised Land with your sweet Mama, my Little Granny, your brothers Eddie, and Larry. We will all meet again sometime. I look forward to knowing the hero that is you. Know you are gone but your memory lives on in the heart of your family.
Love your Great niece Elizabeth.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 49th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
I think it is didgraceful and a travesty of justice that yur killer only served six years.
Rest In Peace.
