Reflections for Police Officer Raymond R. Cannon, Jr.
Ray,
Cant believe its 30 years ago today, there was a beautiful ceremony today at the 69 Pct. in your honor attended by many members of the 69 pct that had the honor and privilege of knowing you and working with you. Rest in peace, Ray and know that you are never forgotten.

30 years ago, today. It is a lifetime to some and a blink of an eye to those who knew you. I take solace in the fact that Ray has been patrolling Heaven ever since. Until we meet again, God bless.

RIP Officer Ray Cannon.
I think of you every Christmas time.
I remember when I heard the news, as I was just a new Sgt in the 78PCT.
, I must have had the radio on to the song “CHRISTMAS, Baby Please Come Home” U2 Version.
That song has brought me to tears every Christmas since .
For a few years now, I have someone near and dear to me assigned to the 69PCT. He always thinks of you as he drives by each Christmas time and stops and says a prayer, for me, to you .
New young Officers of Canarsie are taught & reminded of your Dedication , Heroism and Legacy, as they receive their 69PCT Orientation and Field Training.
Ray, Watch over them and all the members of the NYPD safe
My thoughts and prayers to your Family, friends & loved ones, especially during this season.

Ray, we played hockey against your team in the Brooklyn Police Fire league on the day you were killed. I remember you having a great game and the smile on your face when we shook hands at the end of the game. I was shocked and saddened when I found out what happened to you that day. I still think about you and that game a lot. You are missed.
God bless you and your family.

Ray, I came to the 69 only month’s earlier and now it’s 27 years later that you were taken from family, friends and co-workers. Being the “new guy,” along with the rest of the “new guys” were sent to Rockefeller for the Christmas tree lighting, got there and had to return. Where you were taken from us was supposed to be my foot post that night. This night will be forever etched into my head. I remember you being a leader in the Pct and this young dopey kid from Copiague looked up to you. You are tremendously missed for 27 years and never will forget you. You have saved my life numerous times in the last 27 years. Thank you for your service, sacrifice and leadership. Bless you and your family.

Ray Cannon, I remember the academy days as though it was yesterday as we talked in the locker room discussing our eagerness to do our job to the best of our ability to protect Life and Liberty as we took the oath to serve and protect. You will never be forgotten. You truly were a dedicated Law Enforcement Officer. You were a self propelled leader who never hesitated to risk your life for all of humanity. May God Bless you and your entire family.

Ray was a great young man and to have played ice hockey with him the morning of that terrible day will remain etched in my heart . Ray was a good hearted person who would often protect his smaller players ( Me) and for that I personally will always be grateful . On a hockey note Ray had a cannon of a wrist shot. Always missed never to be forgotten

Hey Ray,
I’m sitting on my couch watching the tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center!
This show always reminds me of you!
That night Twenty Five years ago I made a decision.
I was suppose to be the Patrol Sergeant of the 69 PCT.
But I was asked to change my post to the tree lighting ceremony at RockerFeller Center!
I accepted the post change!
By accepting the post change you went from Sgt. operator to patrol!
I’ve always wondered what would’ve happened if I didn’t make that decision!
I would like to say you were a great cop who I respected and admired!
I’ll never forget you!

Ray, remembering you, your family and your sacrifice on behalf of the community you served. It’s hard to believe it has been 25 years - lost youth - lost innocence. May the Lord forever hold you and yours in His warm embrace.

I’m an old time friend of the Cannon brothers. When I met them Ray was “ one of the little brothers”. I saw him shortly before he passed. We were at his parents house and he just picked up his honeymoon pictures. It was the first time I saw him as the man he became. He grew up to be the “whole package” a true man. He was killed when my first child was 4 weeks old. I look at her now and think of the lifetime he lost. The pain his family lives with will never go away. Ray didn’t live his life in vain, he taught many officers after him valuable lessons that are still taught today. He left a legacy he would be proud of. Xoxo
