Reflections for Detective Lyons Kelliher

My dad worked out of Warren Avenue and I recall him calling home tonight the detective Kelleher was killed. He just wanted to assure us he was OK. For years afterward, when we say our nightly prayers we would always include the phrase “and God bless LYONS.” My dad spoke of him often. He was a true hero.

Lyons Kelliher was my grandfather, Detective William P. Fuller's #3262, best friend. Every time I am in the 011 District, I stop at the honor board in the lobby there, which has Lyons name on it, and say a prayer for him. He is not forgotten.

Lyons Kelliher was the cousin of my late dad - Edward P. Kelliher. I remember the day Lyons was killed. My mom, Mary Bridget (Kearney) Kelliher, went out for the morning newspaper and was in shock when she saw the front page news that Lyons had been killed. I wish Lyons's great grandson Shaun much success with his future career endeavors.
