Reflections for Patrol Agent John Donald Keenan

Agent Keenan,
Sir, I might’ve got your anniversary wrong on the previous reflection I left for you. On today, the 30th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country and to the Patrol. John,

I didn't know you. I have only read your story. I got to take pictures at a dedication event that recently took place. A tree planted in your honor shortly after your death, has grown big and strong and now has a plaque with your name, to remember a life cut too short.
I would love to share the pic with your family as well as collect any pictures you would be willing to share.
Sorry for your loss,

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 20th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you.
I am sure you are proud of your family members who have continued your legacy of protecting and serving.

Dear Grandpa John,

I wish I could have met you. I have heard really good stories about you, like how you loved fireworks and you looking at guns would be like a kid in a candy shop. Everyone misses you you would have been a really good grandfather you and I could have hunted and lit fire works together.i miss meeting you. love, christian fushek

As I look at the faces of the men and women here, I see the faces of my co-workers. I can imagine each of them shooting the bull and swapping war stories at choir practice as the meat sizzles on the grill. I see them laughing, pranking and teasing their fellow agents, as we often do when we relieve stress. I wish that each of them were still here to share the good times.

And I feel compelled to look at each of the faces here and remember…to remember that each of them made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country and we should NEVER forget them or their service.

Too often the sacrifices of those who serve our country are overlooked or casually dismissed by the very public they served so selflessly. But WE should never forget them…each and every one of them. May they each rest in peace, eternally in God’s loving embrace.

John,
Whenever I try to explain to someone about what Joie de Vivre really means it is you who comes immediately to my mind. Your intensity and joy in life for me still outshine all the events of that terrible fall evening. Reading through some of these reflections I see that you would be immensely pleased and proud of your children and of Barbara and all that they've done and become. I can still hear your great booming laugh and see the twinkle in your eye when ever you smiled.

Rest in peace my brother,

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Johnny, really miss you. You were like a brother to me, and easier to talk to than my real brother way back when. Have known your family all my life, had great times with all of you, and to this day your sister Kathy and me are still best friends. I know they all miss you terribly, and we are all very proud of you. Love Pam
